Is this normal?

No period for about nine months then suddenly five days of bleeding. I am peri menopausal at the least. Would have thought going through the menopause given the lack of periods, hot flushes, brain fog, exhaustion but now Confused.

Yes, unfortunately it's normal. How annoying for you.

How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?

SunshineCake · 20/07/2021 22:15

I'm 49 and have been peri for about five years. The last year I had three months with none, three months of periods then nine months with nothing. Relieved it is normal tbh.

I've had a fair bit of pain too which feels different from my old period pain. I thought it was something else

I went into perimenopause around the same age as you, OP. I had a similar pattern with erratic periods from age 44, they could be every three weeks or every couple of months, but a Mirena coil sorted me out when I was 46 and I never had another period.

You might already know this, but under the age of 50 you need two years period free before you can dispense with contraception, one year if you are over 50. Apologies for stating the obvious if you are aware, but there might be others reading who aren't.

Have you considered HRT? It'll help with all your annoying symptoms. It might be worth a chat to your GP.

Don't apologise. As you say it is helpful for anyone who didn't know. I was on HRT a few years ago but had to come off it. TBH there's an element of relief if it is just a rogue period after nine months as I was worried it was an infection or potentially cancer thanks to googling. I've made a note in case next month I have another. Thanks again.

That's what I get now. Currently on hols with dreadful cramps, bleeding and low mood. Been on Oestrogel and Utrogesten for 2 months and it doesn't help at all. it's ruined this holiday. Sad

SunshineCake · 21/07/2021 13:07

Oh no @BooseysMom. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better soon Flowers.

@SunshineCake.. thank you Smile I have high blood pressure now too and think I'm coming off it now. I don't feel any better for it tbh

SunshineCake · 11/08/2021 18:48

Oh dear. How are you now?

I'm late with my period so wondering if it was a one off, if I will come on and worrying about if I should do a test Confused
