Sandrena 0.5mg vs Oestrogel 1mg

Looking for some advice. I started on Elleste Duet 1mg but really struggled with it and asked to change to Oestrogel and Utrogestan. I picked up my prescription today and have been prescribed Sandrena gel 0.5mg instead. Has anyone got any experience of both? A little confused by the reduction in dose when moving from tablets to gel? Thanks x

Take it back to the GP and request Oestrogel, or use 2 x sachets Sandrena.

Thanks for responding @JinglingHellsBells. I thought of using 2 but I was wondering if less oestrogen is absorbed from tablets as it has to go via the liver therefore am I getting roughly the same from the sachet? I think 1 pump of Oestrogel is 0.75mg ….. sorry bit confused by all this 😬

You'd normally use more or less equal doses, so 1mg oral tablet would be 1mg gel. You can't get that exactly with Oestrogel , so the starting dose is 2 pumps, (1.50mgs) but some women start with 1 pump and see if that's enough.

Sandrena comes in 0.5 and 1mg sachets.

Maybe your GP didn't stipulate which brand on the prescription?

Possibly….I’m in on Monday for a BP check so will ask then. Thanks for your help Flowers

Second day on Sandrena gel and anxiety seems worse? Is this normal? Feel wired ☹️

I wouldn't begin to link any symptoms with one day of using a tiny dose of gel. It takes days or weeks to really see any benefits. Sorry you feel unwell but it's more likely to be unconnected or maybe because you have changed from tablets and it's a lower dose.

Och yeah that makes sense tbh. I was just checking in case anyone noticed this as an initial symptom. I have a call scheduled tomorrow with GP to discuss dose. Thanks again @JinglingHellsBells I really do appreciate it

Hi @JinglingHellsBells…just to say I’ve been moved to Oestrogel pump and as the GP didn’t indicate how much I was wondering if you happen to know initial dose as I won’t get it for another day or so. Thanks 😊

There is a very long and detailed info leaflet in the pack:)

Usually, all meds come with a patient leaflet with dose etc

The starting dose is 2 pumps= 1.5mgs.

Fab, thx ☺️
