Starting patches after az vaccine

Crazyhouse123 · 29/06/2021 22:03

So I have finally managed to get hrt, haven't had a period for 8 months, was having peri symptoms for around 12 months before that...I am just coming up to 50 (how the hell did that happen Grin)

Had my 2nd az vaccine 3 weeks ago. I have delayed the patches because both are blood clot risks. I know that the risk is tiny with both but I figured I wasn't going to add both risks at the same time!

Desperate to start the hrt though. Do I just go for it now at this point? I wasn't advised to wait by my gp this is all me but decided myself to just play extra safe.

Thank you for any thoughts on this!

I thought it was only oral HRT that has a risk of clotting. Patches don't. That's why you can use patches even if you have other clotting risk factors.

Thank you - I did think that before but it is it the side effects of the leaflet so that surprised me too. Maybe the risk is there just as a precaution for the patches?

I think part of the menopause conversation is getting the instruction sheets re written, I’ve read Dr Newson is appalled at their wording and is campaigning to improve them - for just this reason

Ahh that's good news! I did some Internet reading after Slavetominidictator's post (something I try to avoid for things like this) and so am happy to announce I am putting my first patch on today Smile. I can't wait and just hope they help with the fatigue and brain fog.

Thank you both so much!

The instruction leaflets are ludicrously misleading. They even have the 'HRT false warnings' inside boxes of Ovestin vaginal cream which isn't even HRT fgs.

Good luck with it all Flowers

Btw there a guest post on MN at the moment from Dr Louise Newson which is well worth reading (as opposed to that awful scaremongering AIBU thread ...). I can't link on this device, but you may be able to search for it? It was posted today.
