Menopause Cake

What information did you take to your GP to get an HRT prescription? I went for my first appointment today to ask for HRT and they didn't seem to know what I was asking for (plant-based body-identical hormones), and gave me an HRT menopause cake recipe. Obv. I have made another appointment with someone else, and want to be armed with the right info this time.

Not sure what the cake is but there is no vegan friendly HRT according to new scientist and the NHS website as it says they aren't regulated and therefore not knows how safe or how effective.

Thank you for the reply. The cake recipe was full of various seeds and nuts etc – I think they thought I was looking for a 'natural' remedy.

The GP gave you an actual cake recipe?
MenopauseCake · 22/06/2021 16:49

Not the GP, the nurse.

I realise I didn't make that clear! After a brief phone call with a GP, they told me to see the practice nurse.

Sorry op I came on thinking someone had backed you a 'Welcome to the menopause' cake or something!

GeidiPrimes · 22/06/2021 17:00

I wonder if men are given cake recipes instead of medication Hmm

JinglingHellsBells · 22/06/2021 17:05

It's hilarious :)

I hope you have better luck next time.

There are some breads on sale that even if they aren't called Menopause Loaves, are made from lots of seeds etc.

MenopauseCake · 22/06/2021 18:08

Thank you Jingling - I couldn't believe it when I was handed a Menopause Cake recipe with the words 'this really helps' when I'd gone in for HRT. Total confusion! Anyway have gone back and spoken to the GP and did have better luck - feels like things are progressing towards the HRT goal though still some hurdles to pass.

I asked for oestrogel and Utrogestan to be prescribed. I read the NICE guidelines and lots of the Menopause Matters website and forum first.

Maybe there is a place for menopause parties like baby showers, with the menopause cake as the centre piece.

Well, that could be fun. What kind of gifts would get get " showered" with? Support stockings and wrinkle cream?

OP, I am glad your GP listened to you.

MenopauseCake · 22/06/2021 19:39

Thank you Elisandra. I really appreciate that.
Jingling yes! Menopause parties!

@Bitofachinwag and @MenopauseCake

Well it could be support stockings and anti wrinkle cream or maybe lube and a new vibrator, and a subscription to Bumble for the singlecoogars.

LaChatte · 23/06/2021 21:17

This song could be played at the party

Not a substitute for HRT prescription, but Liz Earle's Menopause Cake recipe is very nice!

MenopauseCake · 27/06/2021 16:12

Thank you – will give it a try!
