Mirena coil advice

Been to see the go for vagina dryness and been prescribed vagifem, was talking to her about my erratic and sometimes very heavy periods, I’m 52. She suggested having a mirena coil fitted. Basically I would like lighter periods and to have an idea when my period is going to come or no periods at all. I don’t have too many menopause symptoms, other than the dryness/itchyness and erratic and sometimes heavy periods. What are peoples experience of the coil, I am a bit of a wimp about getting it fitted, but have my smear with no problem, I don’t want to be creating new problems for myself, so if it’s going to cause other problems I think I would rather just cope with the periods.
