HRT & booze

Hi, have any of you reduced your alcohol consumption since starting HRT? The thing that worries me is that booze elevates estrogen in the body which may be able to cause cancer . I know that moderation is the key but sometimes I do like letting my hair down

Alcohol is a risk factor with cancer whether you take hrt or not. The Davina prog showed it was far riskier - even a moderate amount.

Thanks for your replies I do love a tipple or two I think the last year has taught us all that life is for living 🙂

@Applejack87 This graph of risks (lifestyle) is very helpful. Davian used coloured balls in the programme to show risks.

www.menopausematters.co.uk/risks.php

More than 2 units a day increases the risk of BC by between 2 and 4 times the risk of HRT.
Obviously if you drink and aren't on HRT you still have a higher risk. If you do use HRT then you may want to reduce your drinking further, to avoid adding an extra risk.

I wonder if you have some anxiety over HRT? You've posted for a while on it, but not started taking it yet. Did you have an appt with a meno specialist this week? (or is my old brain confused?)

I've cut right back - booze just doesn't agree with me any more now. But I think that's peri related, rather than HRT specifically. I only have a drink once a week now and feel much better (fewer hot flushes, less anxiety/low mood)
