AZ jab and perimenopause

Hi, I had the AZ jab 5 weeks ago. At first I had tiredness, was achy, and headache for a few days. Headache was what I would say is a normal headache for me. This then cleared by about four days later. After this, I have what I can only describe as strange mild head pains/twinges that come and go within the minute but they occur randomly and come some days quite frequently. 99% are very mild and don’t need painkillers. I don’t have any other symptoms.
At first I thought it was maybe a long term effect to the jab but now I am wondering if this is a perimenopausal symptom. Intermittent mild head twinges…they have occurred nearly every day for the past five weeks. Some days I get a more fuzzy feeling in head that lasts for like a few hours, sometimes I get pins and needles and numbness in head area as well as other places like hands, but they come and go too. I also have been getting other weird feelings in the head that I can only describe as like hair being pulled or a rubber band tightening on head feeling?! I know it’s strange, but these sensations come and go.

So, does any one get this as a peri symptom? Strange head feelings/twinges?

I am also interested if any one has noticed any new or worsening perimenopausal symptoms since having the AstraZeneca jab?

Thanks for reading.

Well I'm sure it's a coincidence but after my first jab I was a few days late and then had a couple of months of extreme anxiety, palpatations and panic attacks (had my first ever panic attack straight after the jab). Wondered what the hell was happening to me as I have never been an anxious person and to say it knocked me sideways is an understatement. I couldn't help but associate the whole thing with the vaccine and I was absolutely certain I wasn't having my second. Fortunately my rational self returned, the anxiety lifted as quickly as it came and I did have my second which so far as been uneventful apart from my period is late again!

I get strange twinges/pains in my head when I clench my teeth. There was certainly a period of having that after the jab, but it also coincided with a stressful time at work..

@NorthernNic good to hear the second jab went ok!

Just interested to know if anyone has ever experienced this perimenopausal symptom of mild pains/twinges in the head ? Hoping it is just a peri symptom and will just go eventually, like all my other previous peri symptoms.

It just freaked me out when it started happening just after the AZ jab. That I also associated it with the jab. But now it’s being going on so long and just comes and goes every day, I am wondering if it’s just another perimenopausal symptom!

Hello. This sounds very similar to what I have been experiencing and this has been happening through what I think has been a long peri menopause with lots of different symptoms and it's only recently I've put 2 and 2 together and realised it's probably all related to peri menoupause (I'm a bit on the young side).

But yeah, the weird head aches - they can be a bit migrainey but can also just be little twinges and tingling sensations in my head with, like you, tightening or numbness or pins and needles in hands and parts of face too. It can make me feel a bit dizzy and has led to panic attacks as I start to catastrophise that it's a stroke or mini stroke when it happens.

I had the Moderna jab a few weeks ago and the headaches have occurred since but not sure if it made it any worse. Also, I've had a long gap between periods (5 months so far) so I think that was happening anyway...

This probably doesn't really answer your question but I can identify with what you are describing, so just wanted to say you're not the only one!

CosmoMint · 14/06/2021 08:15

@Mouth-thank you for telling me about what you have been experiencing. I am glad I am not the only one going through this. Panic attacks-I know what you mean as I went through some panic attacks early on when these head twinges first started. Now I have noticed it is generally a lot better than when it first started. It’s been happening a lot less over the day but I still get it nearly every day. So there is hope that it fades eventually. I am quite sure that it’s a peri symptom. Whether it was bought on by the vaccine or just pure coincidence that it happened shortly after, I do not know…Hmm
I hope they get better for you @Mouth

I had a bad headache and tiredness after my second jab but that was all. What I did have after my first jab was spotting after nearly a year of no periods at all.

Timeouttime · 18/06/2021 19:40

I have had head twinges on one side for about 6months when I get my period. After having astrazeneca I felt like it shoved me further into perimenopause as it started giving me palpitations which 3 months later are lessening but still present. They are definitely linked to my cycle. Im hoping this nudge further into peri is temporary for us all x

DinosaurDiana · 19/06/2021 07:01

I had palpitations and pins and needles in my hands/arms. Finally discovered that it was low ferritin causing it.

CosmoMint · 19/06/2021 11:57

@Timeouttime-Interesting how you feel the vaccine could have shoved you further into perimenopause. I wonder if it does effect our symptoms as definitely been many women with a change in their periods. So if a change in periods then could be a change in peri symptoms too, I assume. Not much in the media about this, only about period changes.
