Ah, this will be me I think!

I'm only 39 at the moment but my DM only went into menopause in her mid-50s because she had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. Otherwise she was still regular as clockwork and very, very, very heavy due to the aforementioned fibroids.

I think her mother (my Nan) was 60!

52-53 (unclear as not totally stopped when I began HRT coming up to 53.)

56 is late. I'd be questioning someone aged 60 with periods. Not impossible but unusual. It's important to know that kind of really late bleeding could be something more serious, not periods.

maybe worth having it checked if it carries on for much longer.

56 does sound late, are you experiencing symptoms OP. I think I read that the earlier you start periods the later the menopause. I don’t have periods due to Mirena coil, will turn 50 this year, and have many menopause symptoms. My maternal Grandma went through the menopause at 51, so I hope I follow her pattern, this final Mirena was fitted to take me through. I was flooding really badly before the Mirena. Perhaps have a chat with your GP. Good luck

I'm 54 this year OP and still having regular periods.

I'm 57, last period was end of Feb... was starting to think I'd never start to get there... periods are spreading out time wise and only a few symptoms (joint pains, brain fog, very occasional night sweats). They do say the later the better for symptoms...

I never had any "data" to go by. My female relatives all had problems after childbirth and had the lot removed.

The menopause clinic weren't bothered. I'm 57, last period in February. They've gradually got further and further apart. I started my periods at 15 - as far as I've read, there's no correlation between when you start and when you have your last period. Just gone into HRT as my mother had osteoporosis.

We’re all different and I don’t think they’re generally concerned unless we’re still getting periods at over 60. Even then this can be normal for some.

I was still having periods at nearly 57, though getting more sporadic. Due to them being very heavy (I used a mooncup and pads for years) I had the Mirena coil put in which stopped them in their tracks - bliss! It will also have helped with fibroids that showed up on a scan. However with the Mirena we don’t know when we’ve reached menopause. I’ve still had some intermittent discharge since, also after swapping to Utrogestan (now taken as HRT.). A gynae I saw for something else and my GP don’t seem concerned but if it continues I’ll probably push for further tests to see if eg polyps are causing it.

about a year ago one month off 50 my periods got so heavy i went on a progesterone only pill. But even with that, if I miss one that brings on a period. I am scared to stop taking it. Not on hrt.

If I have some time off I might stop taking it a couple of days before to see if my body still instantly gives me a period ! I think it will.. :-(

AppleSouffle · 24/05/2021 10:07

My DM had her last period at 58. They were regular until 56.

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2021 10:11

I’m fifty two and I think I’m through it, had a year of really really horrific periods and haven’t had one now since late last year, my daughter was home for a few months due to lock down and I thought maybe her having periods would bring mine on, as that’s normally what happens, but nope nothing. Whoop! Fingers crossed that’s it.
