Aged 52'- Periods starting again after two years

So annoying.

More than two years without a period. No other symptoms, thought I'd sailed through menopause.

March of this year - full on period, sore boobs, cramps, the works.

Ultrasound scan to rule out problems - all clear.

Consultant said just one of those things, any more bleeding, don't worry, no need to explore as all nasty causes ruled out.

Another period just started, as before.

How flippin annoying.

A poster on another post shared a Covid vaccine symptom capture form.

coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/about-you?reportId=1a46168d-b292-476e-861d-32d4d273c728

Very important to enter any unusual symptoms you've experienced here.

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo

Completely agree, *@HPFA*

I was really, really scared to have painful, heavy bleeding after two years.
My GP was great but even the "it's probably nothing but we have a 'within two weeks' fast track to check this' is another reason for your mind to race.

I've had a second bleed since the first, along with PMT symptoms, but not as bad as the first.

Well, guess what - I had my second vaccine at 8 o clock this morning and this evening I have the brown spotting that sent me off to the docs in the first place!

Obviously I don't know if this is the vaccine or just a slightly delayed response to the hysteroscopy!

At least I don't have to rush off to make an appointment with the GP.

redcandlelight · 22/05/2021 17:16

report this to the yellow card scheme, give as much derail as you can.

@HPFA - it's beyond a joke isn't it
😡😡😡

How are you today?

Not too bad, thanks.

I did report the whole thing although not sure if it was worth it.

It's absolutely normal to be spotting after a hysteroscopy so there's no real way anyone can know if it was down to the vaccine or not.

I do understand there's a real dilemna here. Medics will be wary of listing "PMB" as a vaccine side effect and risking women not going to the doctors when they should. But I'd like to see more helpful and less dismissive reporting.

I'm 62 and have been on HRT for 10 years. Its the type that gives me a very tiny period once every 28 days and lasts no more than 48 hours.

Had my 1st AZ jab and came on 3 days early and my god, the clots and cramps! Shock It also lasted 7 sodding days, I thought it would never stop.

2nd AZ jab and the same thing happened again.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/05/2021 21:15

@thenightsky - how annoying. Have you / will you check it out via the GP?

I recently contacted my GP about HRT and they sent me for a blood test which came back saying I'm post menopausal (I had the same blood test 2 years ago which said all normal). I'm 50 and still taking the progesterone only contraceptive pill, but had a very slight bleed last month. Not massively unusual as I get one maybe once/twice a year so thought nothing of it. It was also about a month following the first dose of AZ vaccine. Anyway, GP sending me for an urgent internal ultrasound scan which has really scared me. I'm still not convinced I'm even post menopausal, surely I need to come off the pill to be sure?

GPs have a protocol to follow that ANY post menopausal bleeding is investigated with an ultrasound. So it may be they think in your case it's very unlikely to mean anything BUT they still have to follow the rules.

Given that a TV ultrasound has no side effects and is pain free the ultra-cautious protocol is correct since it will pick up the rare cases of cancer at no physical cost to everyone who doesn't have it. The mental stress is pretty bad though, as I know!

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 31/05/2021 13:55

Hmm this is interesting thanks for the info all. A colleague of mine has started having hot flushes again, after having been through the meno three+ years ago, and is really pissed off as she thought she was done with all that. I’ll mention it to her - she had her first AZ jab a month or so ago.

WaverleyPirate · 31/05/2021 14:44

I've just had second vaccine today.

It will be interesting if I get a second post menopausal period! Will let you know.

vjg13 · 31/05/2021 19:12

I'm 53 and still having periods. I had missed a few months last year but not a year's worth. I had pizser vaccination so can't blame it on that.

Neversaygoodbye · 31/05/2021 20:32

@HPFA thank you. Thank you, definitely best to be safe. Fingers crossed!

WaverleyPirate · 03/06/2021 20:20

No more periods post second vaccine.

Had the other bleeding checked out (happened after first vaccine / post menopausal). All clear and nothing to do with vaccine.

Neversaygoodbye · 03/06/2021 20:33

@WaverleyPirate that's good to hear. I had my scan today and was given the all clear. Now to discuss what happens next and HRT with GP.

S0upertrooper · 03/06/2021 21:13

My last period was about 7 years ago. I've been on HRT nearly 4 years. I had my first vaccine about 6 weeks ago and my 2nd about 2 weeks ago (I'm not in the UK) and I've had horrendous PMB over this time.

I saw my gynae for scans etc and everything is fine so it wouldn't surprise me if it's connected to the vaccine.

Standrewsschool · 03/06/2021 21:19

I had a period/bleed after stopping them. They found I had a thickening of the womb. Ended up having a hysterectomy to prevent womb cancer.

I think you should contact either the gynaecologist or gp again and check it out.

TDogsInHats · 03/06/2021 21:19

I had post menopausal bleeding after 18montgsand was referred under the two week wait. I did have pre cancerous changes (hysteroscopy, scans and MRI)
Full hysterectomy within very short order sorted me out and I didn't need any further treatment, thankfully.

Standrewsschool · 03/06/2021 21:20

Ps. This was a few years ago, so pre-Covid days.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 04/06/2021 07:16

Very glad to hear the all clear from the tests - what a relief.
