Estrogel and utrogestan

Hi hoping from some information and advice from the wise women on here.

I'm almost 48, have had night sweats for about a year. Periods still regular, cycle around 24/25 days now. I still get ovulation pain and have a short luteal phase of around 9/10 days. I think my mum had a late menopause with periods well into her 50s.

Feeling a bit tired and run down, etc and vague feeling of doom. Night sweats are the main issue as it's exhausting me. I exercise and eat well so do take (reasonable) care of myself. I've had bloods checked for thyroid and iron and all normal. GP is prescribing estrogel and utrogestan.

What I'm wondering is how this will affect my normal cycle? If I'm taking utrogestan for 12 days from day 15 my period would normally start on what would be day 9 of the utrogestan (day24/25 of cycle) so does utrogestan delay my bleed or should I only take the utrogestan for 9 days until I bleed?

Grateful for any info/advice.

If you are starting from scratch with HRT, the best way if your periods are regular, is to start Utrogestan mid-cycle (if you normally have a 29-30 day cycle.)

If I'm taking utrogestan for 12 days from day 15 my period would normally start on what would be day 9 of the utrogestan (day24/25 of cycle)

I'm not sure I understand this. Are you saying you normally have a short cycle? wait until a new cycle, and start Utrogestan mid-cycle, so around Day 12 . (Day 1 being the day your bleeding starts.)

Thanks for replying JinglingHellsBells. I find your posts extremely informative on here.

Yes I have a short cycle only 24 days.

For the last year or so my cycle has roughly been 21-24 days, although occasionally longer.

Doctor told me to take the utrogestan on days 1-12 of the calendar month so that I get into a regular routine and it’s easier to work out when to start and stop them. My body has quickly adjusted and within a month my bleed would start on 14th of the month.

I've been prescribed Oestrogel pump pack and Utrogestan whic I'm due to begin tonight as I'm at mid cycle.
I'm still confused as to whether I take the tablets for the full month and the pump for just the 15 or so days?
Thanks very much x

@Gpie1975, you take the oestrogen gel EVERY day.

Ustrogen for 15 days a month.

I take it 15th onwards for 15 days, some take it 1st onwards for 15 days etc. Up to you.

Oestrogen every day though Smile

BillieSpain thanks so much, that's clarified it perfectly :-)
