Hi , so I've been prescribed gel 2 pumps a day to start , which would you say is better Gel or Patch? I've read posts that some people rub the gel into their thighs & have noticed hair growth is this true , also how long does it take the gel to absorb into the skin? I'm worried that in the Summer months it could slide off after a shower , would I be given a person a dose of estrogen if I touched them , these may sound like silly questions but their on my mind , I'm thinking the patch might be a better option , Any advice please?

I use 4 pumps of gel - 1 on each upper arm, 1 on each inner thigh. It dries in roughly the amount of time it takes to stand naked and brush your teeth, so 2 - 3 minutes although I usually give it 5 before putting clothes over it. Never noticed any hair growth!

As long as you don't wipe it on anyone whilst still wet and wash your hands straight away, you're unlikely to give anyone a dose of it.

I asked about the patch, and was advised by 2 different GPS that they are a) difficult to get hold of (supply issue), and b) people tend to complain that they fall off if you get a bit hot or sweaty.

There are instructions on the leaflet for gel.

Don't bathe or shower or swim for 1 hour after applying.
Apply it after a bath or shower.

Do not have skin to skin contact with someone, where you applied the gel for an hour.

No, your thighs won't get hairy! (It's estrogen, not testosterone :))

Beetlebrooker · 29/04/2021 13:47

I was going to say that about testosterone Jingling, but but thought "what do I know" and decided to keep quiet! in case in some other parallel universe topical oestrogen causes hair growth

My DH is always wandering into the bathroom and affectionately patting my bare bum after I've just wiped the residual gel off there (it is the largest part of me). I keep warning him he'll grow moobs if he doesn't stop it.

Twinkie01 · 29/04/2021 15:03

I asked the GP if it would affect DH if he came in contact with my thighs after rubbing in the gel. She laughed a lot.

I've been on it for a year and haven't noticed any hair growth.

Was a big hoohar on FB a while ago about lack of patches so I was glad I'm on the gel.

I am 55 yrs old and the hot flushes started when I was 43. I had a coil and that helped me until they told me I was to old and took it out last year. Since then I am in constant pain ankles, hands, knees back hips. I have hot flushes every hour no libido and vaginal dryness. Now I have gained weight around my middle it’s like I’m pregnant. They gave me a patch to change every 3 days, I ended up with serve anxiety and thrush. So had to stop. I am miserable and the GP won’t listen to me. I need help. Can anyone suggest a better solution.
