Vaginal dryness and HRT

MuppetryUtd · 16/04/2021 13:33

Hi

I started HRT 2 weeks ago - Oestrogel and utrogestan vaginally -after dealing with completely useless female GP.

One of my main symptoms has been vaginal dryness and I have been using vagifem for that for a couple of months which has helped with urinary issues but not really improved external itching and soreness.

I was wondering when I might notice any impact from the HRT if its going to improve things. I appreciate that it doesnt help for everyone but would be grateful if anyone had any experience of the sort of timeline to look out for.

All the info I have gained from Mumsnet has been brilliant in helping me deal with very useless GPs - so thanks all. I just need to get myself in a better head state to stay positive.

Thanks

For me it took about 2-3 weeks to notice a difference. It helped with the night sweats too.

It ought to help but may take a few weeks. You can also use Ovestin cream (internally instead of Vagifem or outside as well as Vagifem.)

It;s a very weak estrogen cream. Lots of women use both products.

Ovestin cream used 4 times a week internally and externally is the only thing thats helped me. (Officially you’re only meant to use it 2 times a week but the Newson Health menopause clinic says you can use it 4 times a week).

I started Vagifem pessaries about a month ago and was flabbergasted to note a marked and sustained improvement after the first and second days. I hope you get an improvement soon, OP. I don't know whether my experience was because I'd been putting up with symptoms for too long already.

Thanks everyone. I am actually wondering if the Utrogestan I am taking vaginally is causing a reaction and making things worse as it has suddenly got worse over last few days when I started taking it - oh the joys !

This HRT lark seems to be one thing to cure and then another to make a whole load of new symptoms to deal with.

@Applebobber Name change or new poster?
Utro used vaginally can cause some bladder issues. I sometimes mix and match over the days I use it if the irritation gets bad.
