Why can period pain increase on hrt

Today is day one of the first proper period I've had on estrogel and Utrogestan and the pain and the heavy feeling of my stomach is really bad like nothing I've ever experienced before. Flow seems normal.

I also had bad diarrhoea this morning and then quite a few very loose stools this morning which is also unusual for me.

Can someone tell me what can cause this pain? Will it get better in time?

As luck would have it my GP just called. Seems my level of prostaglandins may be too high. No reason for it I can help.

It may get better. Try taking Ibuprofen for 3 days before the bleed is due. This stops the prostaglandins being released as much. Continue for the first couple of days when you bleed.

Thank you @jinglinghellsbells. That's good to know. I have asthma so can only take paracetamol. Are there any other pain meds you are aware of, otc is better?
