No period for months but spotting today

I'm 45 and periods seem to stop around October and around that time (can't remember if before or after) hot flushes started very intensely!

I had just been thinking I hadn't noticed any flushes the last week or so. Then this morning I had some spotting/bleeding. Not a lot.

Does this seem "normal". I am quite anxious I have to admit. Things have been a bit erratic the last couple of years but from October has been the biggest gap.

The blood today panicked me a bit.

I feel am always on to GP about something.

Thanks.

Don't worry. You only need see your GP if you have bleeding after 12 months of none at all, and for women your age (under 50) even that can be slightly longer. Going a few months like you have is perfectly normal peri menopause.

Thanks! We have some limited family history with ovarian cancer and I do get a bit jittery at times. The disappearance of the hot flushes seemed odd.

There is a very good charity called Ovacome which lists all the signs of OC. Bleeding is not one of them. It's more bloating, weeing a lot, pain etc. And it's very very rare in women under 50.
If there is a strong history of OC, (your mum for example) your GP could arrange for screening for you when you are older. Ask?

The flushes- that's normal! You've just had a surge in estrogen - resulting in a period. That's why the flushes have gone for the moment. They'll be back!

Thanks, you are so kind. Mum is fine, was my poor Grandma. I do suffer from abdominal pain at times but it comes and goes and has done for years. None at the minute but awful a
few weeks ago. Again, I had noticed its absence the few months prior. The only time I was really free of it was in pregnancy. I'm hoping once I'm through menopause this will all improve as can really knock me for six. My insides do seem to hate me at times!

Such a tiny amount of bleeding too, seemed odd.
