Femoston Conti - prescribed when still having periods!

Hello,
I hope someone can help before I go an rant at my (dismissive) GP.
I think I’m perimenopausal (periods about 8 weeks apart, thinning hair, weight gain, palpitations, sensitive bladder, lack of motivation or concentration) and saw my GP yesterday. I’m worried about future implications, as a recent MRI showed quite a lot of degeneration in my spine.
He reluctantly said I could try HRT and with no discussion said he’d do a low dose prescription.
When I picked it up, it was Femoston Conti, which says it’s for use at least 12 months after last period!
Have others had this off script? What would people recommend as a first try when still having irregular periods?
Thank you!!!
