Utrogestan query

Hi, I’m 44 and have been prescribed sandrena gel and utrogestan. I’m a bit confused though as the utrogestan prescription is for one tablet per day with no suggestion of a break. I still have periods. I know I need to call the doctor but getting an appt in the near future is unlikely! I can’t see anywhere that this is the usual way of taking it and wondered if anyone can offer any insights as to why I’ve been recommended this. Thank you!

Hi Sevnov I've used it for many years. if you still have periods, you use sequential HRT- that's on a cycle. You will find the dose on the leaflet in the box. It's 2 x 100mg capsules, for 12 days per month.

The 100mgs a day is usually for women who don't have periods as using them daily keeps the womb lining thin (as there is no natural bleeds happening.)

You might be a bit worried over when to start the 12 days.

If your periods are regular, it's best to start roughly mid cycle, so following your own cycle where progesterone increases mid month.

If you only have periods now and again, you can start it when you like either as soon as you start using the gel, for 12 days, or after 14 days.

It sounds complicated but isn't really :)
The easiest way if your periods are a bit AWOL is to choose one day each month as Day 1 on it, like the 1st or the 15th of each month.

Thank you, that’s really helpful!
