Hi so had a gp call re prescription meds review and main one I take is HRT. I mentioned that this month I’ve had 3 bleeds - some months get no breakthrough bleeds I am peri age 51 this month I have had 3 in succession with a couple of days gap in between this month. gp wasn’t happy and said she would get further advice. Rang me today to say I’m fast tracked to see gynae as could be cancer. I’m petrified. 20 years ago I had pre cancerous cells and had laser and loop Diathermy to remove them. Have regular smears and all fine - last one in 2019. Trying not to fear the worse but scared I’m fast Tracked when I wasn’t even concerned - now I’m petrified. Anyone else ?

I had some bleeding after my periods stopped a few years ago. My doctor did a smear test and referred me to a gynaecologist. They did an internal scan and also scraped my womb for a biopsy. Can't remember what the procedure is called but it's not pleasant. Also I'm afraid I don't remember if I was fast tracked but think I didn't have to wait long for an appointment. Everything was fine except the gynaecologist wasn't the most pleasant person unlike the lovely one I had a few years later who did my smear as the Gp found it too difficult which was a first. I was quite worried as my maternal grandmother I think died of either uterine or ovarian cancer.

Thanks mrsclatterbuck my sister has just had cervical cancer - a year clear now and having had pre cancerous cells 20 years ago it’s got me nervous. I actually wasn’t even concerned and it only came up during med review so think that’s why I’m feeling anxious as wasn’t expecting it. It was the fact she was mentioning it was urgent I saw someone swiftly that surprised me and she mentioned the works cancer which I don’t expect her to.

I think fast track is the normal route for any breakthrough bleeding. It happened to Mum a few months ago and she was fine, the HRT she was on was thickening her womb lining hence the bleeds but nothing else was found and they've discharged her now

Thanks trunumber - reassuring

In peri women DO get odd bleeding, even when on HRT.
In time, as your periods get further apart, the HRT resets the cycle.
Which HRT are you on and for how long? This is what your GP ought to have focused on.
If you are using the sequential type, you should get a monthly bleed.

(Hopefully your GP hasn't given you the wrong type for women still in peri which CAN cause odd bleeding!)

You should normally get a bleed each month . In peri you might get another one which is your own!

When I took HRT I got continuous bleeding, like everyday for months [ not just odd days ]. For me it is the HRT that causes it. I tried various ones as each doctor I saw assured me that the one they were prescribing would work, it didn't and I continued bleeding.
I stopped the HRT and I have had no problems since. It may be worth you trying that. Still get checked out, but you may find it is the HRT that is causing it.

Jingle I have been on HRT over 2 years I’m on 2mg sandrema estrogen and 12 days progesterone most months I get a bleed post progesterone this time before during and after. It’s unusual for me but I wasn’t concerned. Gp was though hence fast tracking me to see gynae - stressed now when didn’t think I had smithing to be stressed about. Thought it was just one of those things snd surprised she DT DT say see joe next cycle goes
