Perimenopause Moan!

Hi all,

I’m mid 40s and in the midst of perimenopause. I have so many symptoms and feel rotten most days. I had the Mirena coil fitted about 18 months ago as my periods were so heavy I was constantly on iron supplements. They were also coming closer and closer together.

Currently I get a very hot face (can last for days), have terrible fatigue, headaches, stomach pains, shakiness, crying spells, regular sore throats and congestion, achy body, anxiety and an inability to deal with stress. I feel like I’m slowly falling apart!

Does anyone else have these symptoms? The doctor has told me that it’s my age and will pass, but didn’t this last ages?!

Thanks,
Sam

I don’t know if this thread is still open but I feel like you just described me OP!!

I’m 40 told I’m too young, I’ve been doing extensive research and spending lots of money on any remedy that will make me feel like me again

Your doctor is a twat. Get HRT. It's a lifesaver and there's no reason to suffer like this.

You are not in anyway too young, I started at your age. Most gp's are absolutely clueless about peri-menopause. You need a new doctor and if you can go private to a menopause specialist, do so.

HideousKinky · 29/05/2021 15:45

OP I found I got considerable reduction in symptoms by giving up stimulants - caffeine, alcohol & sugar. After about a year I reintroduced them bit by bit and the symptoms did not return.

Shhhhh223 · 29/05/2021 15:45

I agree I know I’m not too young! I’ve been tracking my symptoms for three years... like you say some doctors are twats! I think I’m going to look at paying for a private clinic I have no faith in my local GPs

@BeckSam
HRT is well worth a go. So many women I know swear by it. Watch the recent channel 4 prog on menopause with Davina McCall.

@Shhhhh223 40 is not too young

Most GPs are woefully uneducated on menopause.

Gimme an H, gimme an R, gimme a T

HRT!!

insist, and I mean insist, on a referral to a specialist

Do some research (e.g. gen-m.com) and book some time with your GP to discuss HRT.

There are benefits during peri menopause for your bones beside more obvious ones. When I started it helped my mood, joint pains, sleep
