Is Newsom Clinic the best? Any others?

Mum has started on HRT (Everol patches) which really help some things but she's having other side effects. I've agreed to look into and pay for a private consultation with someone who can offer expert advice on the best treatment options.

Mum is in the north west but I guess everywhere does virtual now so any recommendations are welcome

@trunumber Might you be able to persuade your mum to post here, herself? She could give a little more info how she's feeling.

The moods etc with her HRT do sound linked to the type of progesterone and this is a really common side effect. Been there, got that T-shirt!

It's possibly the Mirena coil not suiting her, or maybe the dose of Evorel is too low.

One thing to bear in mind is that some consultants may do a virtual appt now, but they sometimes want to see the patient in person to do the necessary checks, like BP etc, after a few months on a new type.

Thanks @JinglingHellsBells - no she really won't post herself and she's asked me to take the lead on sorting it for her.

She was on the patch and progesterone tablets but she got breakthrough bleeding which was fully investigated and she was moved to the coil. She's reports that she smells since the coil was inserted (not an infection type of smell but just that she smells stronger and different down there) which is one of the things she doesn't like.

The patch has really really helped with joint pain, sleep, memory and low mood but either that or the coil have brought back the anger she used to experience when she had PMT (which is hindsight was probably PMDD) Shes constantly got a level of irritability but it makes her really angry(so she's literally screaming at people who've mildly annoyed her- including at work where it's really not appropriate)

If she wasn't using the patch/ Utrogestan properly (you said she wasn't?) won't they allow her to go back to that? She doesn't have to agree to a Mirena unless she has some problem with bleeding for another reason (not HRT.) I was offered the Mirena a long time ago to use with gel and I didn't want it, but was told I could have it removed after 3 months if it didn't suit (this was privately.)

If you find her a private dr, they can suggest options but she'd have to carry on 'seeing' them remotely (via video) and that might not work long term, or they would need to ask her GP to continue with the HRT they suggest.

Sorry Jingling, she is still on the patch AND the coil - she's not keen on the coil but they removed the tablets as she was getting ... sorry I forget the term, the thing where your womb lining builds up too much.

She wasn't taking it properly (replacing it too late, because she doesn't 'believe' in medication so wanted to take less of it Hmm at the time)

I think she just wants someone to outline all the pros and cons of different medication so she can make an informed choice

I would write to the consultant, outline what you are looking for and see what she sees. You'll know soon enough if she's able to help.
