IUD and loss of libido

Hi, a bit of background: I went through surgical menopause aged 32, I’m now 40, and 8 months ago was put on a different HRT regime as I had started suffering from terrible CFS, loss of libido and various other symptoms caused by lack of hormones.

The new HRT was 8 weeks of oestrogen, followed by 10 days of progesterone. I was also put on testosterone to help with energy and libido.

It helped a lot with my energy levels, and I would have the odd week here and there where my libido was through the roof, which I hadn’t experienced for years and which was very “refreshing” shall we say for me and my husband. but I was still very up-and-down both physically and mentally, and felt bloody awful during the progesterone phase, so I needed to find an alternative.

On the advice of a menopause expert, at the start of December I had a mirena coil fitted. Started lightly bleeding after about ten days, and still bleeding now more than a month later. Also still getting some (mild but nagging) pain, although it’s not so much in my uterus as lower down in the pelvic region, kind of underneath, if that makes sense.

Anyway, it’s completely stolen my libido. I had a low libido anyway (although as I said, the testosterone had helped a little) but now it’s completely gone, despite me actually increasing the testosterone.

I’m getting a bit fed up with the discomfort and constant bleeding, but more than anything the total loss of libido is causing yet more problems in my marriage.

I know it’s only been 5-6 weeks since having the coil fitted and maybe I need to be more patient but I just don’t understand how I can be taking so much testosterone and still not having any libido at all. All I’m getting is the odd thick black hair growing on my chin. It just seems weird to me and I’m starting to feel there’s no point in me continuing on the testosterone if all I’m getting from it is more hairy!

I just wondered what other people’s experiences with the coil have been, especially in the first few weeks after having it fitted. How long did you have pain/bleeding for, and did it take your libido away? Does all this sound normal?

I’ve been having so many problems with my libido for so many years and I’m SO fed up with all this now...
