Fed up, now issues with food

I’ve had the odd symptoms for almost 2 years but the last 9 months have definitely been the worst.
Periods have been a lot more erratic and sometimes a lot heavier.
Hot flushes
Anxiety attacks
Sinus issues (definitely hormone related)
Some digestive issues

Now My last period was 12 weeks ago which it’s never been his long before and some of my symptoms have got worse.
Sinus issues (no actual blocked nose) now seem to happen if I eat some foods or drink and when I eat some foods my throat feels funny so I panic which makes the anxiety terrible and I end up popping a Piriton tablet.
Sometimes I feel better just 5 min after the Piriton which then makes me think it’s psychological.

I’m so fed up, when will it end, the longer without a period the worse it is.

HRT should help with most of your list.
Have you considered it?

Timbucktime · 08/01/2021 18:52

I’m not keen on HRT, there is a history of breast cancer in the family which has made me wary.

This is really interesting. I'm 47 and beginning to experience some symptoms. Night sweats, aching joints and nasal issues which may/may not be related. My nose feels blocked although I don't have a cold and I get a tickly irrated cough. Some days absolutely fine, others just annoys me through the day. Like you I then take a Piriton tablet and I'm also thinking there maybe a link to food. For the last few months I was also very anxious, like I had to worry about something. I couldn't not worry about something. I'm usually laid back and chilled so this has been tricky. It sucks!!

Melange99 · 08/01/2021 19:14

I have to take an anti-histamine everyday, for sinus issues. This only came on in peri-menopause. Some foods make it worse.

Timbucktime · 08/01/2021 21:02

I actually feel a bit better knowing that I’m not alone with these seemingly unusual symptoms.

I am generally an anxious person but had not been feeling particularly anxious lately so it took me by surprise. It’s like my mind isn’t anxious but my body is.
I have been putting lavender oil around my neck and throat which has helped a bit as my neck and throat would feel tight at times and I was getting the feeling of a lump In The throat from the anxiety.

How old are you OP?

Timbucktime · 08/01/2021 22:02

45

I developed a hiatus hernia at the menopause (which isn't unusual) That gave me acid reflux which as well as hurting in the normal way you'd expect from indigestion also irritated my throat/larynx and gave me a stupid cough and feeling constant sinus issues. Treating the reflux with drugs helped the problem but it does come and go when I'm stressed. Chewing gum helps me as well

Iheartmysmart · 08/01/2021 22:14

I developed oral allergy syndrome during peri and now can’t eat certain types of nuts and raw fruit. Never had any issues until I reached around 45.

Bodies are weird!

Timbucktime · 08/01/2021 22:35

damekindness. I have wondered if it’s also causing silent reflux.

Iheartmysmart. I actually developed oral allergy syndrome about 18 years ago and have the same issues as you with certain fruits. Bad hay fever from child has almost disappeared but got OAS in it’s place.

I developed a sulphite allergy in peri-menopause and still have it.
Histamine issues are surprisingly common apparently - yet another thing they don't tell you about!

Melange99 · 08/01/2021 23:02

To add to my post, not only do I have sinus issues, I also have developed a nut (and prawn?) allergy, and I suffer from acid reflux now too. It's a thing. One of the myriad symptoms of the big M.

blue25 · 08/01/2021 23:10

This is really interesting. I’m mid forties and have had ongoing sinus issues for over a year. It definitely gets worse at certain times of the month. I also get really bad heartburn & my periods are now quite erratic.

I’ve wondered if low oestrogen is causing dry sinuses.

Timbucktime · 09/01/2021 09:01

There was me thinking menopause would be mood swings and sweating at night (due to being the only symptoms I ever read about)
I wish more information was out there about all these other symptoms.

Whenever I’ve told people before about the food/drink/sinus issues they’ve instantly dismissed them as being a hot do with menopause.
I’m just so pleased I’ve not imagined it all and am not alone.

Apart from popping antihistamine tablets does anyone kno what else can be done?

Bit late to the thread, also suffering with food/digestion.

Linked to my anxiety as a result of peri, I think, horrid AngrySad

Timbucktime · 10/01/2021 16:04

I’ve started to put lavender oil on my neck and shoulders to see if that reduces my anxiety.
🤞
