On HRT

I'm 50 and I'm on HRT. I thought my periods had just about stopped. My last one 4 months ago was very light. I have just started a period and it's quite heavy.

Could the HRT have caused it?

HRT doesn't stop your periods so if it's less than a year since you had one, its a period.

Are you not using a sequential type anyway that gives you a monthly bleed?

Which hrt are you on?

I'm on Estraderm patches and Utrogestan tablets. I started these at the beginning of last month and this is the first time I've had a bleed whilst taking them.

It's a pity your dr didn't actually explain what happens! Why don't they bother to talk to women?

If you are taking the utrogestan for 12 days a month you will have a monthly bleed roughly 3 days after the last capsule. (A few women don't bleed at all.)

If you are taking them daily, that's called a 'bleed-free regime' and you should not bleed if your own periods had stopped for at least a year beforehand. However, in the first 6 months of a bleed-free regime, you can get bleeding off and on until your body settles down to it all. You can also have your own natural period breaking through if you are not actually post menopause.

Thanks for explaining. Daffodil

It feels weird to have a heavy period when I haven't had one for so long.
