Novofem for perimenopausal symptoms

After a monumental temper tantrum had my husband looking for rental accommodation for himself I decided it was time to go to the doctors for HRT. I had a blood test a couple of years ago that said I was perimenopausal, I'm nearly 50.

The doctor has prescribed Novofem for me after a quick phone conversation. I've had a lot of issues with hormone related stuff before ie bled constantly with contraceptive implant, felt like shit with Mirena coil etc so now the pills are here sitting in front of me on the desk I'm a bit nervous to start them. The internet tells me they're for women whose periods have stopped but mine are still going (though eratically). This was a substitute drug for the one the doctor prescribed as well, as what he prescribed was out of supply, so that also worries me.

Does Novofem sound like the right drug to be taking to you???

I had Novofem for 3 months in the spring, when the patches I was on (Evorel Sequi) were unavailable.

I never got on with hormonal contraception (tried several types of the pill when younger and then the mini pill when breastfeeding) and for this reason had been reluctant initially to try HRT (I gave in when the hot flushes became unbearable), but I get on fine with the hormones in the HRT for some reason.

Novofem was OK for me, although I preferred the patches so have gone back to them now they are available again. I thought Novofem were OK if your’re still having periods? I had light bleeds while on them.

I will now have to swap back to pills I think because I am getting an allergic reaction to the patches, but that’s another issue!

You could try them and see? If no good just stop taking them? The effects don’t last long after you stop.
