Mirena Coil for HRT?

Hi - I'd be grateful for any advice on this!

I'm 46, and pretty sure some menopausal thing is going on - I've gone from sleeping like a log every night of my life pretty much, to spending half the night feeling horribly hot and awake. I've just had a blood test and await the results. Very up for HRT, and the doctor seems to think that would be fine.

My question is - can I rely on the mirena coil for the progesterene part do you think? It was fitted about 3.5 years ago (and means that I find it hard to tell whether my periods have stopped). Should I ask to have it removed and take progesterene orally, or ask for it to be replaced, or just assume it's still doing its job and I just need oestregen? As I understand it, it's important to get the progesterene from somewhere to avoid increased risk of womb cancer?

I know that the doctor will be able to help me, but he is being very patient-led, encouraging me to read up on the risks myself etc, so I think he might ask me what I want to do about this. Does anyone know...!?

Mirena covers all the progesterone you need as HRT for four years .

Ah brilliant. So I would be okay for another 6 months, and then would need to get it replaced maybe.
My 'research' (if that's what googling is) suggests I should still be on contraception even if no periods for a couple of years in any case... so getting it replaced would make sense.

I'm 46 too and just had one fitted for the progesterone part of HRT as didn't get on with it orally. I have Sandrena gel as the oestrogen part. I find the oestrogen has helped with flushes and sleep.

They have recently changed advice and Mirena can now be used for 5 years for HRT.

This is all brilliant news - thank you all.
My doctor texted me with the results of the test soon after my post,
and he prescribed patches (evorel - something like that - 50) which is oestregen only. I got the prescription and put one on right away. No side effects as far as I can tell, and it seems to me that my hot flushes have gone - but I can hardly believe it could act that quickly so wonder if it is the placebo effect or something? I am still waking up in the night but no longer have that creeping feeling of intense heat, and also am no longer waking up worried and sad, but able to just kind of chill out even if I can't go to sleep. Wonder if this is actually working...
Thanks for the replies and shared stories... this doesn't seem to be something that my friends are talking about (think I'm a bit early maybe)
