  1. My period 50 days late. Literally a few weeks ago hot flushes hit me out of nowhere. I had a migraine I think, first ever for 3 days. The hot flushes just come and come and come. There is hardly any let up in them. Im dripping in sweat strolling not power walking outside in November in a tshirt! I've also felt a bit dry downstairs, been to the optician with blurred vision only to be told I've dry eyes and prescribed drops, I've developed a bitter nasty taste in my mouth in the past 4 or 5 days too. My hair and skin seem to have aged. Everything looks and feels dehydrated. I feel like I'm literally shrivelling up! All this has coincided with my bastard husband leaving me for a woman 20 years younger. At first I thought the flushes and migraine were down to stress but I'm.a few weeks on. Despite exhaustion I can't sleep. Of its not hot flushes, it's this vile taste on my mouth.

Can I buy anything safe such as a supplement? Or is it a GP job? How do i get rid of thus nasty taste in my mouth? Any advice appreciated. This has just hit me absolutely out of nowhere (apart from the fact I'm 48). Every 28 days like clock work before this. Just as I'm feeling old useless, ugly and abandondoned by my husband Mother nature seems to want to drive that point home to me. ☹

I have 2 advises for you. One please go to your GP as your period could have stopped from various other issues, don't just assume it's perimenopause even if you are at the right age.

Second, the bad taste -that's from dry mouth caused by hormonal imbalance. Easiest way to get rid of it is to chew sugar free gum with xylitol as it encourages salivary production and also keep sipping water. Do not drink a glass of water in one go but keep the water in the mouth for few seconds then drink it.
Now the problem with chewing gum is that it will leave a metallic taste afterwards. Don't think you are keen on it either.
So a better solution is to drink pineapple juice instead , it thins your saliva so will achieve the same effect. Keep it in in your mouth for few seconds before drinking.
Best solution- Use lime (not lemon) , cut a small wedge and keep it on your tongue and suck it slowly. It will encourage your salivary glands to maximize saliva production, and clean your tongue at the same time. You will get rid of the bad taste within a day but do keep doing it for a few days until your salivary glands don't need external help.

So sorry to hear about your relationship.

Why not see your GP and ask for HRT?
