HRT and breakthrough bleeding

I am on my first month of HRT, currently on day 16. I started using the gel on the first day of my period and yesterday evening (day 15) I started with some red spotting that today seems to have turned into a (so far) light period with mild period pain. I took my first dose of ultrogestan last night.

The PIL says that irregular bleeding is common (1/10) and a search on here confirms that. I’m keen to hear from others whether this was something that settled or whether it took an adjustment to dose or type of HRT used.

I’ll email my doctor about it but when I had some 16 day cycles earlier this year it turned out I had an ovarian cyst.

Using HRT for a few days isn't going to cause bleeding- it's usually your own hormones/ period coming (if they hadn't stopped.) It's more likely an early period if you are in peri.

You need to wait and see what happens over 3 months on HRT. Not a lot of point emailing your dr as they can only either a) reassure you or b) arrange a scan which is unlikely.

Fair enough. I’m definitely in perimenopause but still having regular periods with cycles varying between 23-33ish days. A cycle that short was very unusual for me, when I had a few earlier this year a scan showed an ovarian cyst. My cycle settled back down and a follow up scan showed the cyst had reduced in size.

I’ve already emailed the prescribing doctor anyway. Thanks.
