Maaaaan my fingers ache like hell the last few weeks. In 46 and peri...not on treatment (yet).

Will HRT help this pain?

You need a dr to assess what's wrong with your hands and make sure it's not RA which can start in midlife.

I doubt anyone would give you HRT just for joint pain anyway.

I've had bloods and xray. Dx of osteoarthritis. Wtg gynae appt. Have other peri symptoms. Gynae will offer HRT but I wanted to know if it helps with the joint pain or not ?

I’ve had terrible joint pain in the dip joints of fingers since April this year ! The rhumatology consultant actually asked me about my periods ect ect and I was like no they are as normal !
Anyways I did have a think about what he said and low mood night hot flashes urine leakage ect ect all adds up to peri menopause which I realised I am now peri menopausal !!
I have had xrays and I do have osteoarthritic changes and now waiting on Mri
Dr have put me on patches which have helped with other aches and pains but my dip joints still hurting but only been on them 2 weeks !
Hopefully they will help with the pain

Wow! Does HRT help aches and pains. Have had arthritisy pain in hands roughly since April, am 48 and figured it’s aging, and hereditary. Picked up first ever patch prescription today for usual symptoms, never connected achy joints.

Is it possible that this might help? That would be completely brilliant!

If anyone could let me know the connection that would be amazing, thanks!

Londontown12 · 20/11/2020 07:13

Yep aching joints is part of the fun @weeweewoman I didn’t connect it all at the time I was just thinking my fingers stiff from not working in Lockdown (hairdresser ) ! I’m 44 but xrays have shown I have osteoarthritis in my wrist and thumb joints but mri will hopefully show what’s going on with dip joints but yes my general aches and pains I get in the morning have gone !

Weeweewoman · 21/11/2020 14:14

@hairobsessed123 Well that is just brilliant brilliant news - about the added benefit of HRT that is. Not your osteo-arthritis obviously, poor you. Is there a treatment for that?

I've not started with the patch yet. Had a boozy zoom party last night so didn't want boze or aftermath to mask any side-effects or how I'm feeling generally. Monday - am feeling really positive about this!!

Thyroid problems and low Vit D were the reason for this at 45, for me. Not menopause.

whatisforteamum · 28/11/2020 20:31

I had terrible knee and hand pain.RA tests were negative GP decided I had osteoarthritis and was referred to.a clinics where it was decided my job was the culprit.
When I started yet it never occurred.to me the pain would just go.From not being able to hold a cup some night to nothing.p
Amazingly no one connected my age to being peri meno.

@Weeweewoman
Sorry for late reply !
Nothing really can b done for the osteoarthritis!
But I’ve just been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and have joint erosion and inflamed tendons this can be treated but no cure !
So I’m due to have some steroid injections soon and talk about future medications
Hope your doing ok on the patches I’m on my 2 nd month and feel so much better xx
