I'm 48. Periods have always been regular, 28 day cycle, quite a lot of pain the first couple of days, which then tailed off the last 3 days or so. Textbook, absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.

For the last 6 month's or so I'm down to about a 23 day cycle, and now I'm also "bleeding" in between. I'm saying it like that because it's more like dark brown sticky jelly. So I have a period (which has been heavier, I've flooded for the first time since teenage years), a week or so clear, then the brown stuff starts, happens for a week or so, then a week clear then normal period again. It's pretty grim tbh and it seems to be getting more unpredictable.

I've spoken to the doctor, I've had blood tests to rule out ovarian cancer and have had a smear quite recently so cervical cancer unlikely.

So I'm left with the conclusion that its peri related, is this normal?!

Would HRT help with this? I think the doctor is open to giving it to me, but not quite sure what to do. I do have other symptoms (aching, brain fog, anxiety) but probably nothing I'd really seek help or treatment for at this stage.

If anyone else has had this problem id be so grateful for some wise words!

It's just peri and nothing to worry about. It's down to lower progesterone in the 2nd half of the cycle and sometimes no ovulation. One treatment is the mini pill (which is progesterone) or HRT if you have other symptoms.
