Sex with HRT

Hi All,
I'd just started using Ovestin cream for post menopausal symptoms. I had read through the posts and can only find 'medical' or 'technical' information. But what I would really like to know is practical every day living information whilst using Ovestin. Questions I'd like to ask are:

• Is oral sex different?
• What effect does Ovestin have on the partner? Do they taste it? Smell it?
• Does Ovestin over-ride your own natural taste and smell?
• Does Ovestin have an impact upon weight? Unfortunately, I did not start this HRT treatment until postmenopause .... so I've gained jelly around the middle as per 'middle aged spread'. Can this budge with Ovestin?
• What about swimming/bathing - does impact the efficiency of Ovestin?

I've used Ovestin for around 14 years. I have asked my consultant a few of your Qs so here goes....

Is oral sex different?

Not quite sure what you mean by this- for you or your partner?

No idea- ask them.

Unlikely

No absolutely not. A year's worth of Ovestin (using it 2x a week) is equivalent to 1 day of HRT (1mg.)

• What about swimming/bathing - does impact the efficiency of Ovestin

Don't use it before swimming.

How were you told to use it?

The leaflet says best used at night. This is for the gravity factor- it does tend to gradually work its way out of your vagina. So lying down for 8 hours after inserting does help absorption.

Having said that, if you think you might have sex that night (and you only need use it 2-3 x a week long term) you can pop some in at any time of day like first thing in the morning.

What I mean is, is would your scent/taste be different from prior to using Ovestin. As I currently have no partner, this is a question of curiosity and I guess a need for reassurance? I have not had errmm any 'activity' for 8 yrs ...

Apologies for this one. Poorly made question. What I meant was does it over-ride your natural body's scent etc?

Yes, I'm aware not to use prior to swimming, and only at night - time. So I guess during these times, sufficient amounts would have already been absorbed by the time you do swim/etc.

Your last sentence, on the practical side of things was very helpful. Thank you. I'm not at the twice a week stage yet. That said, since there is no one in my life, it would be pretty safe to say at this stage I shouldn't worry about it too much at this point in time. Still, it is good to know. :)

I have never experienced any complaints or heard other women make any negative comments.

I don't see how it can. It has no perfume. It is only replacing your own estrogen so the chances are you might develop an 'old lady smell; without it :)
