Missing out on HRT?

Lagoonablue · 18/10/2020 21:32

I am 55 And think I had an easy menopause. Main changes I think are, some osteoporosis but I had that before because of a health condition. I take Vit D and exercise a lot so it has improved. My hair is thinning a bit around the hairline, gained a few pounds and slightly low libido. To be honest, though that sounds bad, it’s all quite mild. I could probably get on with my life and not give a second thought to any of that but a bit of me thinks I should address the issues.

Have I missed the boat with HRT? Should I bother? Am I too old? Anything else I can do?

You will only know if you have osteoporosis if you have a DEXA scan.

Do you mean you have osteo ARTHRITIS ? (very different.)

How old were you when your periods stopped?

If you were under 50 it's worth thinking about hrt for long term bone and heart protection.

You can start HRT anytime but ideally they like to to be within 10 years of your last period.

I think hrt is given as a treatment to slow osteoporosis so well worth discussing if you’ve got that

Hyperfish101 · 19/10/2020 13:33

Yes I had a Dexa scan.

Period stopped about 4 years ago. I don’t know if I will see much benefit as I’m generally fine but I hear so many positives about HRT.

May speak to my GP.

@Hyperfish101 are you the OP- @Lagoonblue?

If you have osteoporosis, what did they advise as treatment?

No one can have this diagnosis and just be ignored!

What was the reason for the DEXA scan? A fracture?

HRT is a treatment for women under 60 with osteoporosis.
But you need to speak to a rheumatologist and get expert advice on what next.

I'm actually shocked that you were diagnosed and nothing is being done. It will only get worse, sorry to say, with no treatment.

Hyperfish101 · 19/10/2020 15:56

Oh something was done. I had 3 years of bone strengthening meds. My osteoporosis is a result of undiagnosed Coeliac disease. I have managed to improve my bone density with the meds and exercise. The meds can’t be taken long term as you probably know. Plus they made me feel awful so 3 years was deemed ok. Especially as I have managed to improve my bone density.

Name change fail 😆
