Hormonal Headaches

Sorry if this question’s been asked before, but is anyone getting nasty headaches just before their period? I’m 46 and have always had fairly easy periods, but during the past year I’ve sometimes had bad headaches for 24-48 hours before it starts. I’m existing on Ibruprofen today.☹️

Is this a common sign of perimenopause? Is there anything I can do about it?

I think there is some kind of link; I had my first period in 8 months within the last week. And also a migraine-type headache with visual disturbances. I have had them occasionally & always around my period.

Bloody hormones!

Yes definitely - my periods are very irregular these days but always accompanied by a migraine.

Things that help me are large quantities of carbs and salt - I eat a lot or marmite on toast for 2 days!! I find Solpadine the best pain relief.

Also, if you are trying to rest with the migraine, there are migraine playlists on Spotify. It sounds so weird but they are just very soothing and help me sleep.

Try magnesium tablets.

Thanks for the responses, I’ll definitely try magnesium tablets. Feeling slightly better today but still not 100%. Going to bed with a hot water bottle now!
