I'm 54 no idea whether I'm in the menopause or not, was on HRT for mood swings bla bla bla. Stopped that feel better.
I've nothing to complain about but I've really caught myself having a right old moan. I just feel less motivated etc etc.
So decided to get myself going again. Anyone care to join me by writing about your life and how you are coping with life in semi lockdown and the kind of things you are doing.

Hi Ilovetheseventies I've just stumbled across your post as I've felt particularly 'hormonal' and down these last few days, I was thinking of getting some vitamins for my symptoms, I'm definitely less tolerant and less motivated so I thought I'd have a glance on MN to see if there's any other suggestions. This lockdown is definitely not helping as i'm working less and as I'm in an area of 'very high' so verging on level 3 restrictions I can't make any plans to go out or meet anyone. During the first lockdown I did couch to 5k, decorated and did lots of CPD. I also felt like i 'finished' Netflix but fortunately for me they've restocked with some great new programmes. We had to do an emergency trip to doorstep drop some food off to my son and his uni flatmates as they have been told to isolate while waiting for the results of one of their covid test, the students had filled their windows with messages, not political ones that were reported on the news but funny ones.... the Batman film is being filmed nearby so they were taking advantage of that, there must be a lot of young adults stuck inside so that cheered me up to see that they still had their sense of humour. Unfortunately it was too dark to take photos.
How are you coping today?

Ilovetheseventies · 16/10/2020 17:17

Hi iamaMused yes I'm feeling OK thanks. It sounds as if you're got it worse than me. Are you not allowed to meet people outside socially distanced?
Hope your son is OK.
To be honest I'm getting totally confused with what we can and can't do.
I really feel sorry for the young who really need to be getting on with their lives.
I think all the constant media coverage was getting on my nerves so I've decided to stop listening to the news for a while, anything significant I'm sure I'll find out about.
I'm trying to concentrate on what I can do rather than what I can't. I'm also thinking about all the books and projects that you are always wanting to do but never have the time, we'll now is the time.
I'm also not mentioning the C word if at all possible. I almost fell out with my DP as my view point is very different to his and so I'm just not talking about it.
I'm lucky I have a job as a nurse in a care home so I've plenty of work. I was just wondering how old you are and what symptoms you've had re menopause. I feel I'm coming out of my moods more although I was getting abit obsessive about covid!
So I'm making a list of how I'm going to cope and I know I've got it good. I worry about all those people who haven't and are losing their jobs.

  1. Think about what you can do.
  2. Don't talk about covid.
  3. Avoid the news if possible.
  4. Keep in touch with friends.
  5. Exercise.
  6. Finish all those projects.
  7. Smile.

Hello again Ilovetheseventies can you believe it's a Friday night, shame about the lockdown I was planning on going disco dancing tonight NOT my menopausal headaches, forgetfulness, sleepless nights and hot flushes prevent that particular pleasure!!!
I totally agree with you about the constant news/media coverage and it's also driving me mad as I can't get over the feeling that the government are not telling us the truth and I too worry about what's going to happen to all those people who were only just coping financially beforehand, so I'm sticking my fingers in my ears and going blah, blah, blah to stop me thinking of all the things I can't do rather than the stuff I can,

I absolutely love your list and I'm thinking of doing one myself and I may steal yours if that's ok 😂😂
I love listening to comedy podcasts they definitely take my mind off stuff and make me smile, I was listening to one today from Kerry Godliman who was interviewing Tom Allan and then Zoe Lyons so that's on my list for next year to try and see more comedy shows... and hopefully to see the rescheduled shows from this year.

I'm not 100% sure what we're allowed to do in my region we are very close to both Liverpool and Manchester who are either in or heading to tier 3 lockdown so I'm not meeting either friends or family, the weather isn't to bad, we could meet for a walk or something but several of my friends have health issues and when I'm in work I'm mixing with the general public so I worry what I may pass to them. How are you affected by the latest restrictions?
I love your name as I too love the seventies....especially the music, the old rock bands so there's another goal.... to to revisit music from that era.
I hope your care home is safe and you have plenty of PPE to keep you safe too.

Ilovetheseventies · 17/10/2020 22:22

Hi iamamused.
I like the idea of comedy podcasts it's always good to have a laugh I think we can take things too seriously. I'll look up the names you mention.
We're you really going to a disco, is that an exercise class?
I'm not sure what's happening where I am I'm just doing the usual but I think there is going to be more mask wearing up here. I haven't read any of the news or listened to it today and any talking on covid I've managed to avoid. So I feel better for that.
I went on a run today and feel better for that.
I've thought I'm 54 life is going v fast and I don't want to spoil it by worrying about covid. I think the media are whipping people up into a frenzy! And I'm a fairly level headed person but I'm beginning to wonder with the government.
The pubs are shut but they've relaxed the visiting for care homes!
We should do a zoom with a few women one night, maybe talk what we think the average mumsnetter looks like!

GrinGrinhappy Sunday.....hope you had a great weekend, I had my own private disco, my husband and son decided to watch a horror film which I absolutely hate so I donned my headphones and revisited my favourite tunes from happier times, I came across 'Blondie live at the BBC' and had a private singalong remembering the days when I sang into my hairbrush pretending to be Debbie Harry, anything to avoid the miserable news, I'm completely in agreement with you, the minute the news comes on I switch over... I feel that menopausal symptoms aside I'm in the prime of my life... few grey hairs and wrinkles so I'm not wasting another second worrying about covid.... I'am taking it seriously by following all the scientists suggestions, hand washing, staying in, wearing a mask. Have you seen the Janey Godley parody of Nicola Sturgeon it's so clever that's the only covid announcements I like to see. Good on you for going for a run, I think exercise is the key for coping with our flushes, I run like Phoebe from friends so it's a treadmill for me, I've ordered some multi vits and sage tablets 🤞🤞🤞🤞 they help.

Ilovetheseventies · 20/10/2020 11:30

Hope the vitamins arrive soon. I was working Sunday night and I've only just recovered. So sorry for late reply. I know what you mean about music, it really helps lift the mood and especially when you listen to your favourite tunes.
I'm on holiday this week and can't quite believe I've not got to go to work or do much.
Did you say you were working?
I was speaking to someone today who said the virus was man-made. I'm not into conspiracy type things but I like reading about how people get their ideas.
Maybe you could DM me your name and we could talk over messenger. It doesn't look like anyone else is joining us. I've got such a boring story about my menopausal experience to share with you.

@Ilovetheseventies maybe your circs are different to others? Here, the pubs are open albeit to 10pm but I'm never out at night anyway so makes no odds, cafes are open but care homes are being very careful.

iamaMused · 21/10/2020 08:41

Good morning both, hope you are enjoying your week off, I'am working but different hours each week and about 15 hours instead of 30 but I do consider myself very lucky to still work those hours, I know what you mean about people having different theories, whatever gets them through and I too love listening to their ideas, To me it's only the same as reading what's in the papers Smile
How do you DM? I can't seem to find the function on my mobile phone app as I'd happily DM you.
My vitamins are here, I'm on my second day 🤞 they will have some effect, I've neither killed anyone or run a marathon so I think it's been a positive experience so far SmileSmile
What are you planning to do for the rest of your week off??

Ilovetheseventies · 21/10/2020 21:46

You press where it says book mark the 3 dots then it gives option to PM.
I am meeting my son tomorrow morning. I need to visit the dump too.
I may go cycling if its not too windy.
I would love to have a few drinks in the pub but I don't normally do that so it's just a craving. I accidentally heard on radio we are having a further week of pubs shut.
The fact you are taking vit pills means you are thinking of your health so they will work. Hope so anyway. Enjoy and hope you can work out how to leave a message

Hi ilovetheseventies I have sent you a direct message, my area announced that it is entering tier 3 on Thursday..... I mean why Thursday not today??? But hey I'm going to live the dream until then.... joking I'm off to Costco as we are genuinely out of toilet rolls. Smile. Hope you are well and well relaxed after your week off.
