Day 45 of 23 day cycle... (I'm 42 and in Peri I guess)

Well, after missing a period last month I am now on day 45 of this 'cycle'. For the last 3 years my cycle length has reduced to around 21-23 days, but up until now I have never missed one. I track them on the Flo app.

Is anyone else waiting for theirs? What is the longest gap you have experienced in peri?

I am 42, having hot flushes from time to time, interrupted sleep, skin breakouts, achy knees and back. Oh the joys... I had a thyroid test 16 months ago, and all was normal. Pg test was negative.

My last period was 12 Aug... starting to panic now and going to do a pregnancy test later - I’m 47 and really can’t see how I’m pregnant (condoms plus fairly infrequent sex! - plus can’t see how I would have been ovulating last time we DTD!) - but panicking a bit now.

Have strange PMS type symptoms but other than slightly irregular periods recently haven’t had any other peri symptoms.

Like you, cycle if anything was getting shorter before now. I don’t really track it though might start now! So this is my longest gap.

It's all a mystery isn't it? I was exceptionally relieved to get that negative result, even though like you I thought it unlikely to be positive. It was an odd experience though, as it has been 12 years since I last peed on a stick! Good luck.

Flo is easy to use I find, and my DD now uses it. It's free and you can ignore the ads for the premium version.

Thank you - yes, in an ideal world I’m a bit old for all that!

Thank you for the info on Flo, I’ll look into that. Good luck to you with everything too.

Hairydilemma · 09/10/2020 17:48

@AlwaysaLittleBitTired it was negative - phew! Good luck to us with our continued waits! HmmGrin

@Hairydilemma Hurrah!

I am just thinking about whether I should be speaking with my GP. I keep reading about pre-45 peri and low oestrogen risks....

Why don't we know this stuff? We should come with a handbook.

Have a great weekend!

A handbook would be great! Thank you, you have a lovely weekend too.

I'm 46 and my 28 day like clockwork cycle is now into its 2nd round of +45 days.

Unfortunately though I seem to have now had PMT for the last 4 weeks and I'm hoping that isn't how it's gonna work.

I took a pregnancy test when this happened last month (although of course it wasn't last month it was August 🙄) because I was so worried!

Hairydilemma · 09/10/2020 18:59

There must be a roaring trade in pregnancy tests for 40-something worried women! I was pleased I had my mask on today so she (maybe) couldn’t see how ancient I was...

It’s all very strange isn’t it?! Like you I definitely feel a bit PMT-ish which is not great either is it? Periods are annoying enough without not having a clue when they’re going to turn up and essentially just being grouchy and fat all the time Angry

I have a GP appointment on Friday (phone call) to discuss my symptoms. I will be on day 52 by then, which would mean that I have missed 2 periods in a row. My concern really is that if this is it properly starting, then should I look at HRT to protect my heart and bones? I am not keen to take it for any other reason, but all that I have read seems to suggest that I should.
I will keep you posted! I am also going to take another pg test just so I can confirm that I have if they ask me Blush

Hey ladies - in case anybody is following this, I spoke with my GP on Friday and gave her my list of symptoms (or at least the first 20 that came to mind!). Yesterday they took blood to check LH/FSH levels, and my thyroid function. I'll report back...

Speaking with her about the symptoms, made me realise that I have been experiencing perimen for 3 years now. Funny how we fob ourselves off with thoughts of 'I'm just busy, overstretched, tired' etc.
