Changing from HRT to Mirena and patches

Hello lovely ladies
I’m 47. Went on HRT 2 years ago as I was quite symptomatic. Felt much better on HRT! Rang GP today for repeat prescription and she asked me if I was happy to continue as current thinking is that it increases the risk of stroke. As my periods are really heavy - after a chat we agreed I’d go on the Mirena with oestrogen (?) patches.
I’m happy to try. Is this something anyone has done and would you recommend it please? Thank you 😊

The Mirena and an estrogen patch is HRT! It's just a different way of taking it.

Pill form HRT is known to have a higher risk of blood clots, albeit very small, so your GP is being good to offer another option.

I'm waiting to have one fitted, I'm 46. Been on HRT estrodiol gel plus utrogestan tablets for the second half of the cycle for almost 4 months. It has been great for flushes but done nothing for my painful, heavy periods, just made the bleeding come randomly with no pattern at all! I've been offered the mirena coil before but always been a bit wary, but I'm going to bite the bullet this time. I'm hoping it will reduce, or ideally stop my periods, as happens for many women.

PS @JinglingHellsBells thank you for suggesting I take the utrogestan vaginally (different thread). My mood was much better, as was the insomnia this month.

I have had Mirena coil for the last 15 yrs and recently added oestrogen patch when I started to have night sweats and disturbed sleep. It also sorted out mood swings and aching joints! I hope that I can carry on for another few years with this combination. It’s more targeted that systemic HRT pills so less reliant on absorption through gut.
I sometimes forget to change the patch but my body soon reminds me.
