I'm 48 and still have regular (and horrendous) periods. My mood and peri symptoms have been getting increasingly debilitating so rather than the coil which I requested, the GP prescribed patches. I'm currently on the 2nd half of the cycle and have the Conti. patch on. The first half is the 50 patches. I still get vivid dreams and occasional night sweats but my mood has really lifted. Today though I have sharp stabbing pain in one breast not sure if this is related.
I'm only on my first box so early days. If you have these patches, how are you finding them?

Sorry can’t help I had to come off patches they irritated my skin.

BooseysMom · 24/09/2020 19:29

@Holothane..oh I've had that a bit too.i'm just keeping an eye on it. But so far they're causing far fewer side effects than the pill and coil.

Op, I'm just started on these and they have settled my anger, night sweats and facial hot flushes. I am going to ask gynae to change them early October to the combined patch as I do not fancy having a bleed every month. Haven't had periods for years thanks to mirena, so really don't want to go down that route again.

Evenstar · 25/09/2020 17:46

I am on my third box, find my mood seems to go down with the conti patches like PMT, and had quite a heavy bleed last month. I did have a Mirena but at 56 don’t need it for contraception and was told I would either need a new one or combined patch so had it removed. I think my mood overall has lifted somewhat and the night sweats are improving, also I think my joint pains and stiff muscles are better.

I am going to give it a few months before changing again, I was on Evorel 25 before (continuous as I had the Mirena) and don’t think it was enough, my chin hair was terrible and that seems to be slowing down too.

@Tootsey11..thanks for your post. I'm with you with not wanting the periods back. Mine was really heavy last time and I've only just finished the first box. I wonder whether a coil would be better but alot of ladies have probs with them. Maybe I should ask to change to a combination patch..I'm not sure what mine are tbh!

@Evenstar.. thanks for your post. That's interesting about your mood dropping with the Conti patches. I'm not sure if mine did as I'm usually so low anyway and I think generally I feel more happy. But my last period was bad with cramping and flooding. The pain in my breast has gone now though so that's something.
Good luck with your patches. It sounds like they're working for you except for the drop in mood and periods. It's so hard to find the right one!

Hi - I’ve recently been prescribed Everel Sequel patches. Like a fool I didn’t read the instructions properly so for the last 4 days I’ve had a conti patch on instead of a 50. To be on the safe side I’ve replaced it with a 50 to start again as can’t find any info to say if it’s a problem to start the wrong way round. Anyway I’m v interested to hear all your experiences (some previous posts are scaring me!)

I haven’t had a period for about 6 months. I didn’t really want to go on HRT cos of all the reported side effects, but my menapausal symptoms have been so bad I thought I’d give it a go (hot flushes, constant sweating, no sleep, anxiety, mood swings, low libido, aching joints...). The other thing I’ve done is gone vegan - and feel better for it

I found it took about 4 months for everything to settle. Im not on Sequi because it wasnt available but Im on Evorel and Conti on 2 week rotations - same thing really.

I did get regular light bleeds after 4 months but a year on I've stopped bleeding completely. However, the Peri symptoms have not returned. Im not able to get an appointment with my GP yet to discuss this new development.
