I feel so sad and tearful

I’m 50, periods have been getting less regular for the last year or so, but no other obvious symptoms of peri-menopause. Suddenly this week I’ve been feeling so sad for no obvious reason. In others’ experience, is this sadness/low mood something that will come and go, or will this be the new normal (without HRT or something)?

Only HRT shifted it for me. Oestrogen gel plus a progesterone tablet. The oestrogen gel is called oestrogel and quite a few of here get on well with it.

The flat mood was the worst part of it for me. I could almost handle the sweats and insomnia but not the flatness of spirit.

I’m happy to say that I’m through it now at 65. I didn’t have HRT.

I had extremes of pretty much every mood and emotion available....sometimes in the course of about an hour. Everything from despair to euphoria, lasting anything from a few minutes up to several days. Cruelly the euphoria only ever lasted for short periods.

It’s not easy at all but I just kept telling myself that they weren’t ‘real’ feelings, just the way my body and brain were coming to terms with the changes. I found that being aware of what was going on helped a bit. Regular exercise and fresh air truly does help.

I don’t trust pills so I avoid them as much as I can but if it’s really too much and affects your life too badly then go and see your GP, I think they’re pretty clued up these days!

The thing that was worst for me was the hot flushes (and I still get them 😡!). DH found me one January night standing in the back garden in knickers and a vest....in the snow....and I was still too hot!

I won’t lie to you, the menopause is shit; but it doesn’t last forever and everything is much better and much calmer when you come out the other side of it 😊

Thank you for sharing. Even the fact that someone replied makes me well up. FFS!!

OP, I felt like this, emotionally flat and tearful, but HRT has helped.
Also, yoga has helped,too.

Thank you allaglow. We had a meno seminar at work and the speaker said that restorative exercise like yoga was helpful (in conjunction with sweaty exercise). How do you think it helped?
