Progesterone cream

Hi everyone,

I'm most definitely perimenopausal. I'm 45 next month and for the past year or so I have awful anxiety and insomnia right after my period. I think this is the time progesterone is lowest.

I've started taking the Biovea progesterone cream today, as instructed on day 14 of my cycle. Which is just after I've ovulated. My main concern is I have no symptoms before my period. The issue is straight after my period. But according to the instructions I have to stop using the cream until day 14. But this is the time I have my biggest issue.

Just wondering if I can continue to use it after my period if I'm still ovulating?

Also, does anyone have any feedback on using a progesterone cream?

Many thanks 😊

The amount in the cream is too small to have any effect and it's loss of estrogen causing your symptoms, not lack of progesterone.

Your skin cannot absorb it. It's a scam- sorry- which makes money for the company but doesn't help women.
Everything on their website supposedly explaining how you need progesterone to get rid of meno symptoms is untrue.

See your GP about licensed HRT maybe?

Is it a lack of estrogen after my period which is causing my anxiety and insomnia?

Yes.

This progesterone cream thing has been around for decades and was started by a US dr called Dr Lee. It's a scam. He tried to convince women with peri symptoms they were short of progesterone. And marketed a cream. And it doesn't work but many women shell out £20 a time hoping it will. It's been marketed under many brand names.

It's not lack of estrogen AFTER your period, it's lower estrogen levels all the time.

Ok thanks Jinglebells. I did ask my GP to be put onto HRT and she said I was too young and it's only for women actually going through the menopause. I ha w been suffering with these two symptoms for too long now and it's driving me insane. I honestly thought it was low progesterone, so I'm grateful to find out at last!

I've left a post about 6 threads down in UPPER CASE about a video- watch it.

HRT is for women in peri meno or post meno.

Thank you Smile

Hi @Cherryblossom200 my worst time is after my period ends too. Like you it’s anxiety and dread and I also get v irritable. I’ve started HRT to try help with this and like you didn’t understand why this would be caused by lack of oestrogen. Worth a try! X

I’m 44 and I went private to the London hormone clinic. I had lots of blood tests ( that my gp wouldn’t do) and from this was prescribed oestrogen tablets and testosterone cream which I take daily. My gp agreed to take over the prescription for the tablets, so they are free (Wales free prescriptions) and I pay £60 for testosterone cream which lasts me about 3 months.

I paid about £500 for the blood tests and consultation; best money ever spent.

It has been transforming for my mental health.

My blood work says I'm not peri but my moods, irritation and other symptoms say different.
I started taking Menocool and Starflower oil from H&B to try and naturally level things out.
I have noticed a slight improvement.
I can't take HRT as I'm not allowed synthetic Estrogen so must try alternative ways.
I'd read up about the cream a while ago and after reading so many negative reports about it, I discounted it.

I was similar with bloods, my FSH was normal and I’m 41 but oestrogen was 79pmol on day 3 which I thought was pretty low. But then bloods are supposed to be v unreliable with hormone levels so good to go off your symptoms which is what I ended up doing.
