Headaches

I've always suffered with pre menstrual and menstrual headaches and migraines.

I'm 50 and I have irregular and very light periods and my hot flushes have increased. I think I am well on my way towards the menopause.

Recently my headaches have become more frequent and I have had blurred vision with no pain. This often develops into a thumping headache. I take prescription headache medication which works but makes me feel a bit drowsy and sick for a short time.

I have tried HRT but had side effects.

I wondered if anyone had tried anything that had helped with headaches which I think are linked to my hormones. I have cut down on coffee and try to eat well and exercise.

Thanks

Get an eye test first. Weak eyesight can make your headache worst. In any case it's good to get it checked at this for any pressure in the optic nerves. If everything is okay with your eyes then may be try magnesium supplements, some people say it helps migraine/hormonal headache.

Thank you. I will try the supplements. I have regular eye tests and used to get the same sort of headaches when I was a teenager.

Just an update in case this might help anyone that gets bad headaches. I cut down on caffeinated sugary drinks and my headaches have been far less frequent.

I tried the magnesium supplements but didn't really feel any better.

Have your headaches improved since you cut down on caffeine and sugar, Wantchocoloate ?

I have just been searching about headaches and how to cure them! I am 52 and have had a vice like headaches on and off for a week now which I think is related to hrt and periods...

I will try to cut on sugar which I have definitely been eating out much of, chocolate, cakes, biscuits etc and see if that helps.
