utrogestan and bleeding

Hi.

I was due to start utrogestan on day 15 of my cycle but my cycle has gone haywire with no period since I started oestrogel so am starting tonight. I should have asked this at the appointment but when do I start bleeding? Is it when the utrogestan finishes? Or straight away? Or or or? I’m super anxious about taking it- vaginally- as I have a history of super bad pmt. I am 45 and peri.

Thank you for any help.

Normally, the bleed starts 3 days after the last capsule. Might be a day earlier or later so be prepared.

You should be fine- I've started using it vaginally after years taking it orally and it's much better- no hung-over feeling and although it's a bit of a faff, I feel it's better.

@JinglingHellsBells I'm doing the same and so far so good . Did you half the prescribed dose ?

hippospot · 10/08/2020 17:03

In my experience 3 days after last capsule too.

I am 45 and peri too with long history of severe PMS. Taking the utrogestan didn't help I'm afraid, it just made the moods/anxiety/anger/bloating very very regular :(

I've just had a hysterectomy.

@collywobble No I still use 200mgs but I don't do a 4-week cycle- I do a longer one under dr's supervision so halving the dose might not be enough for me.

I do hope that everything is easier for you soon x

Can I tag on to this? I have oestrogel and then uterogestan for days 16 to 28 of cycle. But have had no bleeding/period for 3.5 months? I've worked out when days 16-28 of my usually 30 day cycle are and taken the pills but still no bleed? Do I just carry on with the cycle of meds?

@MySaladDays75 You might be over thinking this a bit.

With HRT you don't (need to) tie in the hrt with your own cycle; the hrt sets a new cycle.

So with Utrogestan, you take it on the same days each month for 12 days.
eg 1st Jan, 1st feb, 1st march etc.

Or the 15th of each month- whatever day you choose, but leave a calendar month between.

If youve been trying to time it with your own cycle, there's no point and it might even screw up the bleed a bit.

However, about 1/4 women don't bleed anyway on cyclic hrt, so don't worry too much.

But if you do the dates above, you will probably get into a pattern where you do :)

Jingling - thank you!

@MySaladDays75 Exactly the same for me, nine months into hrt now no natural bleed for 3.5 months, peri and 45. Can’t work out if I have no bleed because of the hrt or because going into menopause. Aargh.
