My mother’s was horrific with mood swings and I don’t want to put dh through that because he’s a much better man than my dad was.

Maybe the only thing you can do is try to be as fit and healthy as possible. I've always suffered from bad PMT so am expecting it to be awful.
Peri is already messing with my mind and body.

You're a bit young- average age in UK is almost 52.

Just keep fit and do all the things you would anyway- exercise, eat well, lose weight now if you need to as it's harder to shift later...

I would say arm yourself with all the information that you can now. I am 44 and in an early menopause. I have atrophy and ls. I had symptoms years ago, went to the doctor's and got fobbed off saying I was too young. I am now living a nightmare and am struggling daily to walk and sit.
