Could I have had the menopause and not been aware???

Strange question I know 🤦‍♀️

I'm 56 and had a hysterectomy 15 years ago. One ovary was left in place, the other removed because it was infected. At the time I was told I would almost certainly go into menopause within 5 years, possibly sooner as I only had the one ovary left.

So far I have had no symptoms (that I am aware of!) and will soon be turning 57. My mum was menopausal in her early 40s.

I just can't fathom how this could have simply passed me by 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Not everyone has symptoms. If you've had a hysterectomy and one ovary removed chances are you've gone through it.

Did you have any hot flushes?

I first had hot flushes (very mild) at 47 and I'm now 50. But I only get them on the hottest days of the year! I'm on the back to back pill because my periods were heavy so I've no idea if they would have stopped. I literally have no idea if it's behind me or ahead of me!

I suddenly realised one day that my periods had stopped about 18 months before and I hadn’t given it a thought. Any symptoms I put down to the stress of teenage kids. Been about 3 years now.

I never had any symptoms either, it took me ages to realise. Maybe a bit of insomnia, but I've never been a good sleeper. Interestingly I never felt sick when pregnany either & I've wondered if the two things are related (not reacting to changing hormones)

@BeChuille no, no symptoms at all. Had the hysterectomy and of course my periods stopped immediately...that was 15 years ago now. Since then, apart from ‘no periods’ everything’s just the same. I must surely be post-menopausal by now, given my age and lack of reproductive organs etc 😳 I would just like to know I guess 🤷‍♀️

@Mustbetimeforachange same here...no morning sickness in either of my pregnancies. Or cravings...which I really wanted, so that I could eat some ludicrous concoction of lamb chops and pink custard at 3am and blame it on my pregnancy hormones 😂

I went through it while I was on the mini pill. No symptoms, nothing. Came off pill about 2 years ago when I was 52 and that was it.

BeChuille · 13/08/2020 21:26

@ghostlyglow, hope that happens to me too. My only symptom was really heavy periods, so a few weeks before I turned 50 I started taking mini pill back to back. I was going to do the same, stay on it for 2 years about and then stop. I'm reading a really good book by leslie kenton and although the odd thing is out of date, the vast majority of what's in the book wouldn't have changed in 25 years. She says that progesterone helps in peri menopause but doesn't help at all when you are in actual menopause.

I had no symptoms ... periods stopped in my early 50s, I had one hot flush (which I only realised was a hot flush afterwards Grin), no mood changes or any other symptoms Confused ... just assumed it was the menopause, never went to a doctor about it.

I've no idea either, early 50s and have had mirena coils for about 10 years so no periods in that time. I've had spells of anxiety, occasional very mild hot flushes and spells of woolly-headedness but that's all.

OnceUponALorry · 22/08/2020 23:01

My periods stopped aged 41.

I've always had anxiety which I don't think got any worse. I don't manage heat very well due to MS so I'm hot all the time anyway (haven't had any flush type feelings). 6 years later still nothing.

Never had morning sickness or cravings during my pregnancies.

Hi I’m 35 - haven’t had a period for almost a year and always suffer with hot flushes - have also had weight gain ! I went to the doctors a couple of years ago - just about the hot flushes at that point and said as crazy as it sounds could it be the start of menopause - he said no - did blood tests and said I was low in vitamin D and gave me tablets ! A few years on and I now have more than just the hot flushes ! I was told that if I don’t take my contraceptive pill at the same time every day then that could stop my periods so thought it was just that ?? What are your thoughts ? Please help
