Peri-Menopause on Mini-Pill

I’m 47 and on Mini pill
How would I know if I’m going through changes ?
Haven’t had a period since beginning pill 3 years ago.
Feeling very up and down in mood and finding little irritations in everything some days ..
I can wake up fine ..but one little thing and I’m in a mood all day which can escalate into a full blown argument between myself and partner ...He is really losing patience and as much as I try not to bite ...I more often than not cannot Control a tirade of negativity.
Also feeling shitty physically...Have gained 2 stone mostly round the middle and bowels are not great either one way or another with lots of smelly wind ...
I’m just feeling like I’m losing myself and wondering who I am half the time ...
Any Thoughts ?
TIA

Hi @Millie1973,

We know you posted this thread a few days ago, but we thought we'd give it a bump for you to get it back into Active Conversations. Hopefully some Mumsnetters will be along soon with some advice and support. Flowers

Hi Millie,
I am also 47 and on the progesterone only pill. About 2 weeks ago I couldn't stand the anxiety any more, so I phoned my GP and have gone on HRT. It's early days- so we'll see how it goes.
Good luck OP.

I was on mini pill and had similar issues - dreadful mood swings and bloating/wind. I did not have weight gain but also got drenching night sweats.

I stopped the pill to see what happened and got a couple of bleeds but have since seen the doctor who did bloods, confirmed I am in peri and I have gone onto HRT which has helped big time with the moods.

The mini pill didn't do it for me. Now I am on the combined pill, but think the GP will pull me off soon, they don't like it.

The combined pill helped with the rage. I am 46.

Hi, I'm on a progesterone only pill, back to back, so like you, I have been wondering how would I know if I haven't had a period for a year, because obviously I haven't had a period since starting this pill (for very heavy periods) at age 49.

I feel fine on it though. No rage. My weight had crept up and up over the last year. I can't blame lockdown, I think it was mostly peri menopause, so I cut out bad carbs and I lost 20lbs. Couldn't believe it as I was half expecting the weight to be unlosable at my age, but, I'd never cut out carbs before.

But watching menopause barbie, she was clear that progesterone only is helpful only in peri. Once you move beyond that stage of your menopause it is UNhelpful.

So I will stay on this for the rest of the year and maybe try to stop taking it. See what happens. Hopefully not another heavy period.

I had fsh test when I was 50 and on the mini pill. The doctor told me I had gone through the menopause but to take the mini pill for another year, just to be sure, which I did. Then I stopped taking it after the year and that was that. No symptoms, nothing.
