Do I need a higher dose?

I have been on Evorel 25 for about a year now. I had aching joints and hot flushes at night and until recently that seemed enough. In the last few weeks I am dreadfully stiff and achy and having full on night sweats in the early morning. Last night I could have wrung out my pyjamas. I have gained some weight in lockdown but don’t feel it is just that.

I started peri-menopausal symptoms in my early 40’s and due to heavy bleeding have used the Mirena coil since then, so I don’t know if I am still having periods. My GP recommended having my coil replaced to get the benefit of the hormones although she doesn’t think at 55 I need it for contraception. This was just before lockdown and even normally it is really hard to get this done at my practice.

I have done everything to make myself feel better without HRT before resorting to it. Yoga, walking, changing my diet and I am just sick of feeling this way.

Any advice? I am feeling low anyway and this is really not helping. Thank you.

To answer your question, probably yes. As your hormones fall some women need more estrogen.

25mg is the lowest dose available and is very low.

@Evenstar I had a private (video) call with a menopause specialist yesterday. I’m similar to you been on HRT for 18 months and old symptoms coming back, hot flushes, night sweats, I’m just not feeling great.
She’s changing me from a pill to gel so I can start with a small amount of gel and slowly up the amount if needed.
I’m so hoping that it will help/work.
PS I ended up going/paying for a private consultant as even getting HRT from my doctors was such a battle that I couldn’t face trying to discuss my current situation with them!

I might try and persuade my GP to give me some estrogen.

Im on estrogel, started with two pumps but recently ive started getting night sweats again so thinking of uping dose to three, does anyone know if this is ok or should i get a blood test, im 50 now and taking progesterone pills for 12 days of my cycle so not sure if im having normal periods or just the shedding

Evenstar · 22/07/2020 17:11

Actually got a telephone appointment yesterday, I am going for a combined patch with some progesterone as my Mirena coil has run out. I am hoping the 50 patch will make a difference.

Struggling with all things hormonal! Can anyone recommend a good hormone specialist in London who is genuinely knowledgeable as there are some questionable ‘experts’ around?! Thanks
