Overwhelming Anxiety

Im 42 and believe Im peri menopausal (my mother had memopause @ 45) My main symptoms so far are heavy periods, hit flushes, sore breasts, heartburn, muscle /joint pain and lack of sex drive. I can just about deal with these.

However lately Im getting horrible waves of anxiety which are lasting for days at a time. I feel like my stomach is in knots and I cant concentrate on anything, and could burst into tears over any little thing.

Would hrt help with this? I haven’t been to my gp yet. Im assuming this is just the start as my periods are still regular.

Would love to hear what worked for others who have gone through similar.

You need hrt for all sorts of reason as this is classed as an early menopause (before 51.) and you have all the symptoms even though your periods are still happening.

Have a read online about the risks and why you need hrt.

It's to prevent osteoporosis - estrogen is necessary for bone density- and to protect your arteries from furring up, and also possibly dementia.

i started menopause at 45 and the anxiety was horrific, I'd rather have jumped off a cliff than ebdured it. HRT stopped all of that and let me live a normal life.

@madcatladyforever, Ive never experienced anxiety like this for such prolonged periods of time. Its horrible, its like my mind is in freefall.

Im glad to hear that hrt helped you.

I started my hrt at the same age with you, at 42. Hopefully I feel normal now and hrt helps me to stay free from all meno symptoms. I was very depressed and almost suicidal during my peri. It was a real nightmare for me.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to HRT for peri symptoms? Also 42 and suspect I'm going in that direction but can't take HRT due to a previous pulmonary embolism.
