Flooding for 2 days a month would you put up it?

Now late forties....assuming I’m in peri menopause.
Always had problem free periods until last 18months ..found out then that I had fibroids and cavaties . The acid tablets were prescribed & reduced a little but made me feel awful . ( If there is ever a side effect to pills /hormones I always surely get it .)
My question is if you only have 2 really bad days a month where you can’t really stand for long as you just have clots falling from you causing flooding .. would you ask for Ablation or chance the Mirena ( very reluctant about) .
I am taking an iron supplement & am planning on seeing g.p.
Did this happen to you would you just put up for 2 days?
Thanks

I really really feel for you. I had this too, absolutely ridiculous flooding that was life limiting every month. I couldn't leave changing more than 15 minutes before flooding. I couldn't have the pill or mirena for health reasons so did look at the ablation route but stopped short of the op as the consultant said it might not work, I'd need a strong hormone injection beforehand which would put me into a temporary but very intense menopause, and then may not work. So I put up with them for a bit longer before they fizzled out (I think I had a year of flooding). What was a game changer for me during this time was using a mooncup. It made it much easier to manage the flow and see how much I was losing (unbelievably I could fill a mooncup 8-10 times a day).

Thanks sockbogies. I have tried my moon cup a while back & like you say it soon fills up ,maybe I should try it again despite leaking through it😔. Good to know it will eventually stop though .

That’s good to know too. I was a bit alarmed when 2 months ago I passed a clot the size of the palm of my hand...it’s crazy that 2 days are so extreme..Think I’m going to have to try & make sure I don’t have to go to work on those days if I can in future as it’s too much .

For the poster with fibroids, did they shrink post menopause? I'm debating what to do about mine

Turquoisesea · 17/06/2020 20:37

I’m exactly the same OP. I am 50 and 2 days a month I have horrendous periods and have to change tampon/pad at least every hour for 2 days. My periods have got closer together too and last about 10 days but generally only 2 of those days are really heavy. I’ve been thinking about getting a Mirena but just nervous to as not that keen on the idea. If I knew it would definitely stop my periods I probably would have it. I’m just worried about side effects.

Turquoisesea · 17/06/2020 20:39

I also went to the Drs a couple of months ago for a blood test and found out I’m very anaemic because of it so now on strong iron tablets!

Justgivemewine · 17/06/2020 20:44

Same here, and 49, 2 days where I might as well just sit on the toilet all day, and stupidly erratic intervals between them.

Just wish it would hurry up and be over with

MrsSlocombesPussy · 17/06/2020 20:49

I had this, the contraceptive implant helped me for a few years. Would that be a option for you?
I eventually ended up with the Mirena when the implant stopped working, ( I was bleeding for 3 weeks a month with random flooding) and couldn't believe the difference it made. However I know it doesn't suit everyone.

I feel the same about the Mirena tbh ..it’s a mine field ... exactly that though I may as well sit on the toilet for 2 days also ...feel so much better knowing I’m not alone with this .

It’s miserable isn’t it. I never know when those 2 days will be either as my periods have gone weird but if I arranged anything (pre Coronavirus) and it was on the period from hell days it would just ruin it!

EnoughAlready2020 · 17/06/2020 23:29

I have to say I had flooding but for most of the month - and even then I put up with it for nearly a year.

I broke down to my GP and he laughed jn my face when I told him I was in a meeting, stood up and I flooded all over the floor in front of everybody.

In the end, I went private, had some fibroids removed and got the Mirena. 2 years later I'm so happy that I dealt with it in that way and I'm not troubled or embarrassed anymore.
