Do I actually need HRT?

I'm 47 and am in perimenopsuse and my symptoms have gradually been getting worse especially over the last 6 months these are terrible low moods, sore boobs, joint pain, painful vagina, bloating, decrease in sex drive and tearful and a couple of waking up very hot but this has only happened twice in 6 months. I called my doctor and was advised anti depressants which I declined and was given HRT Novofem which I will take and try to see how I feel but I feel a tad guilty as I know there are ladies out there with syptoms a lot worse than what I am having and am now asking myself do I really need it yet?

I don't understand why there is a guilt factor in using some form of treatment if you need it.

You need to decide if your symptoms warrant HRT. Not sure if you mean your symptoms have only happened twice in 6 months or it's just waking up hot twice in 6 months.

It doesn't matter what other women do and whether their symptoms are worse- that's up to them to deal with.

Where is the guilt coming from? You've got a long list of peri symptoms so, being honst, I don't get where you are coming from on this.

Would you feel guilty if you had treatment for a broken leg?

If your GP has prescribed it then she feels like you'd benefit from it, it's not like you've forced them to give it to you.

Have a look at the menopause doctor. She is fab!
I have just watched today an hour long video of hers where she states categorically that anti depressants should NOT be prescribed for low mood / depression related to HRT.

Just been prescribed novofem given long list of perimeni symptoms - first ever HRT after two years of lots of alternatives. I’m nervous about things potentially getting worse - I’m also confused as small print says it’s for those who haven’t had a period for at least 6 months but I still have a monthly period.... mmmm

I’m on my 4th month of novofem now and it’s working great my mood is getting better but did just have a little paddy this month and got a bit moody but nothing like it was before taking the hrt I haven’t had any problems so far so fingers crossed. Yes I noticed the same thing about the not having a period for 6 months but I haven’t worried too much about it. I’m still having regular ish periods I hope you get on well with it good luck 😉
