Will blood tests show if you are in peri menopause?

Hi
Extremely light periods for the last few months, really just spotting. I am 43 and on the pill but up until this point they were like regular periods
I got my bloods done and mentioned menopause, she said I was too young but would do the tests and all came back normal. Does that mean I'm not in peri or ?
Thanks

Blood tests are almost totally unreliable for diagnosing peri because your hormone levels are constantly fluctuating, and you being "too young" is simply not necessarily true. I highly recommend going to a specialist if you're having symptoms.

OP I could have written you post! On pill and 42 with v light periods. Gp told me wouldnt do bloods as it's very common if been on same pill for a long time and I'm too young for peri menopause.

Yes on that pill for a v long time. I hope it is just that. Thanks so much

I doubt blood tests are reliable anyway if you are using hormonal contraception.

CupoTeap · 13/06/2020 13:23

I was diagnosed you her than you by a blood test

If you are on combined pill you can’t have hormone levels checked as results not reliable. Most drs wouldn’t check bloods if no period for 3 months so long as not on combined pill.

Rushhomeroad · 14/06/2020 14:01

Not on hormonal at the time - lighter periods and few other symptoms. Bloods said not peri menopause but was very anaemic. Had loads of investigations, all fine, so told I was peri despite blood test results.

Rushhomeroad · 14/06/2020 14:02

Sorry, 44 at the time!

danthemansmum · 14/06/2020 19:36

You can also have symptoms before bloods show changes. Usually would diagnose on symptoms.

Yes I am on a combined pill. I do sweat at night but I think that is due to a heavy duvet as when I change it don't have the same issue
Someone mentioned heavy breasts and mine do seem bigger but again wondering if that is just weight gain during lockdown.
No hot flushes - I have always had insomnia so again no better or worse on that front compared to before
I am just 43 so if this is peri should I be looking at HRT ?

You're not too young, I started peri when I was 37.

Meera8 · 11/10/2020 22:14

I've just turned 37 and I feel I'm peri too. Is this normal at this age?

didireallysaythat · 11/10/2020 22:20

I'm 49 and had this discussion with my GP recently (I was booking an appointment for a new coil). He said the blood test wasn't a definitive way to assess as the levels could be high depending on the day they take the blood, but a low reading would be a low reading and would suggest peri. I had the test, the levels were low and now I'm on HRT.

I got great advice on this board - really grateful for the support (which isnt true of all MN boards.... Hmm)
