Vaginal oestrogen cream

I am 54 and haven’t had a period for around 9 months now. Over the last month I’ve started to lose sensation in my clitoris, a lot. I’m in a loving marriage and this is making me feel really sad. I spoke to my GP and she has prescribed vaginal oestrogen so I wondered if any of you could share your experience of using it? I googled it and it seems that it can cause massive hairloss - I’m struggling with that too right now and really don’t want that to happen.

I feel very depressed at the moment- sexless and bald isn’t where I want to be right now.

Also would it just be better to go onto HRT than use this cream?

My head has just exploded! I didn't realise this was something treatable! My clitoris has disappeared, together with my libido, and because I've been on HRT for 10y I thought well that's just what it is.

Is it reversible? Is there any chance of getting back a bit of my vavavoom?

I never even thought to ask about this.

@Dilbertian It can be hard to reverse genital changes after so long but you can see a consultant for testosterone which is prescribed for women's missing libido! Your GP can't prescribe it.

@TheLittleDogLaughed Spend your lockdown reading the website of Dr Louise Newson which gives a balanced view of HRT. :)

Dilbertian there is another condition which causes disappearing clit - I can’t remember what it’s called but I don’t think it’s reversible. I am in self-denial that I have that ... the HRT hasn’t helped you at all?

HRT has been amazing. I will never willingly come off it.

But I had grinding depression for several years before and after starting HRT, during which time my libido pretty much withered away. By the time I got interested in sex again, I seemed to be no longer capable of arousal. Because HRT has improved everything else, I thought this was as good as it gets, and just accepted the situation.

OP in the last post you made on MN, you say you're in a loving relationship with your husband and you talk about sex. But now suddenly it's a sexless marriage of convenience. How...convenient...
