Pregnant or peri menopause?

I know there's a simple answer to this which is to test but I am terrified. I've got 3 children, no desire to have 4, but am now 2 weeks late and having symptoms that could be either early pregnancy or general perimenopause. Like, crampy feeling in abdomen, headachey, moody, very hot feet at night, etc. I don't have the intense tiredness and hunger that I remember from other pregnancies.

I'm 41. Tell me other people have been on this roller coaster too. Will I be thinking I'm pregnant for years with every irregular period until full menopause?

Unless you have a family history of early menopause, I’d say you were pregnant. Average age for last period is around 51.

Ohnonotnow · 21/05/2020 05:39

I'm 44 with the exact same symptoms, three weeks late now. I did do a test last week at 10 days late and it was negative.
I'd say just do a test and put your mind to rest

JinglingHellsBells · 21/05/2020 07:04

@florababy84 You need to do a test.

What contraception are you using? At your age you can still use the combined Pill (unless any reason not to) and if you are really worried about getting pregnant, double up on methods ( Pill or coil with condoms.)

florababy84 · 21/05/2020 07:07

We use condoms every time, since the pill doesn't agree with me.

I agree I need to test. Thanks for the replies

@Ohnonotnow So glad it's not just me! I'm hoping I get a negative in this instance.

Just an update on this - I tested after being nearly a month late and it was very negative. I am guessing I've just missed a period and will see the GP if the next one doesn't come.

So relieved

My periods started going a but haywire at 41.

florababy84 · 27/05/2020 13:21

Thanks BeingonFB, did they settle down again for you or stay irregular till menopause?

BeingonFBdoesntmakeittrue · 27/05/2020 13:32

I went back on the pill!

Ohnonotnow · 27/05/2020 14:20

@florababy84 that's good news.
My 'period' did start at the end of last week but it's more like a withdrawal bleed when on the pill (which I'm not) than a regular period. Guess this might be the beginning of the end 😆

ShaniaPayne · 27/05/2020 19:35

My periods have been a bit weird during lockdown - there've been a few threads discussing late/missing/strange cycles.

florababy84 · 07/06/2020 08:14

Hmm does this look like an evap or faint pos?

I would do a fresh test...

lilgreen · 07/06/2020 09:07

This started happening to me around 43. Still happening but more often and I’m 49.

lilgreen · 07/06/2020 09:09

Luckily DH had a vasectomy so there were never any scares.

fatteratforty · 17/06/2020 15:48

@florababy84 how did you get on ?

florababy84 · 18/06/2020 06:28

Thanks for asking, still no answers. I've done a couple more tests since the last one I posted but they were such super faint lines that they were definitely indents or evaps.

Planning to take myself off to the doctor at the end of the month.

Might be worth buying one of the digital tests, set your mind as rest.
Says me who did 7 tests...just be to sure

Babybean1216 · 19/04/2021 21:04

@florababy84 where you pregnant in the end or was it perimenopause symptoms

florababy84 · 19/04/2021 23:21

@Babybean1216 My period never appeared. I never got more than the faintest of faint lines so I went to the GP who did a test in her office, said it was negative and put me on provera to bring on the period. I basically skipped three periods in the end until the medication brought it on. I put it down to pandemic stress Sad
