Curious case of the disappearing clitoris

countrylanes · 15/05/2020 13:58

I swear it is retreating into my body. Doesn't seem to get bigger or engorged when I am aroused anymore. Harder to orgasm.

I presume this is an age thing - I am mid/ late 40's. Anyone else got this and what helped?

It's called vaginal atrophy. Doesn't just affect the vagina- can affect bladder, pelvic floor and clitoris.

You need Oveston estrogen cream to apply.

JinglingHellsBells · 15/05/2020 20:37

Ovestin- only from a GP not over the counter.

SmartyPants0 · 16/05/2020 08:30

Will oestrogel work just as well or does the cream work better. I have just been prescribed oestrogel for similar problems

JinglingHellsBells · 16/05/2020 11:25

You can't use Oestrogel on your bits- it will sting like mad! If you are using full HRT it may well help.

countrylanes · 16/05/2020 11:43

Thanks everyone! God, ageing sucks! And why isn't this sort of thing common knowledge. If there was something that caused men's penis' to shrink the whole world would know about it!

@JinglingHellsBells Have you tried it? Did it help?

Vagifem pessaries help. They need to be prescribed by the GP.

Toilenstripes · 16/05/2020 11:47

I’ve got it too OP! I was prepared for hot flushes and mood swings but the disappearing clitoris was quite a shock. ☹️

countrylanes · 16/05/2020 12:29

@Toilenstripes I'm really upset about it! And really upset it's not a known thing! I bet there would be billions of research on it if fucking penis' shrunk in middle age! Like there is for effing erectile dysfunction.
Women's sexual pleasure not such a big deal apparently.
Have you had anything to help you?

OP posts:
Toilenstripes · 16/05/2020 13:29

I haven’t yet discussed it with my GP. I’ve been avoiding sex, tbh. And you’re right, there’s almost no information or discussion about it! Women are largely expected to just get on with life, and that’s what we do! 🙄

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/05/2020 13:32

Hmmm I’m 45 and not noticed it disappearing. I have noticed i don’t get turned on as easily anymore 🤷‍♀️ I’m on bio identical HRT testosterone and progesterone. No oestrogen yet.

countrylanes · 16/05/2020 15:45

See, I get turned on even more easily - but orgasming is harder - really frustrating!

@JinglingHellsBells... just to clarify i am not using Oestrogel on my bits 🙄 I just wondered if applying estrogen cream to my bits would be more effective.
